What we want

The Director of Marketing and Communications at Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMUQ) is responsible for the overall management and direction of the department of Marketing and Communications. You will communicate TAMUQ's mission to the TAMUQ community, write and distribute press releases related to activities at TAMUQ, maintain and contribute to TAMUQ websites, create marketing campaigns for TAMUQ, including digital marketing and social media, write annual reports, opinion/editorial pieces for news outlets and deans remarks. Continuously analyzes the environment and trends and develop communications to align with these. Organize initiatives and plan events or press conferences. Liaise with media and handle requests for interviews, statements, etc and will assist in communication strategies or message from senior leadership. You will ensure marketing objectives are implemented, oversee and manages the marketing/communications team, be available for crisis management communications and ensure quality control of all information released.

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelors degree in journalism, communications, marketing, public relations or closely related field, or any equivalent combination of education and experience
Ten years in communications, strategic planning, and marketing and/or media relations with increasing levels of responsibility, including five years of management experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Generally supervises
Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding

Preferred Education and Experience:

Mater's degree in related field of study
Experience at Texas A&M University and familiarity with its marking and communications operations


Ensures the development of marketing campaigns, advertising and promotional plans, to include digital marketing and social media
Ensure marketing objectives are implemented
Manages the use of external resources as appropriate and within budget
Develops internal and external communications plans for Texas A&M at Qatar, to include press releases, annual reports, opinion/editorial pieces and deans remarks
Liaise with media and handle requests for interviews, statements, etc
Assist in communication strategies or message from senior leadership
Communicate TAMUQ's mission to the TAMUQ community
Continuously analyze environment and trends and develop communications to align with these
Maintains and contributes to the TAMUQ websites
Organize initiatives and plan events or press conferences
Ensure quality control of all information released
Ensures the university brand is utilized consistently and appropriately on all printed and electronic media
Develops and maintains a strong and productive relationship with both print and electronic media
Ensures Texas A&M University at Qatar is understood by the media
Directs market research activities in order to keep abreast of changing demographics and other relevant issues in order to evaluate Communication activities and to monitor emerging issues
Directs communications and media strategies that successfully deliver information and key messages to the University's stakeholders and the public
Serves as the official spokesperson and media contact for Texas A&M University at Qatar
Directs the Office of Marketing and Communication including budget management and professional staff supervision, development and evaluation
In consultation with the Dean and CEO, Chief Operating Officer and other senior administrators and departmental staff, develops and recommends an annual strategic plan for the office
Serves as a member of the operations team and the Dean's Executive Staff
Crisis Communications*Develops and maintains crisis communications plan
Directs the communications response of any crisis that threatens the reputation of Texas A&M University at Qatar
Liaison with other communications offices *Serves as the liaison with the communications offices of Qatar Foundation and the other Education City universities, Texas A&M University and the Texas Engineering Experiment Station
Performs other duties as assigned
