The Knight-Hennessy Scholars program is Stanford’s multidisciplinary, graduate-level scholarship focused on preparing the next generation of global leaders to address the complex challenges facing the world. Knight-Hennessy Scholars (KHS) will annually select up to 100 high-achieving students with demonstrated leadership and civic commitment, who will receive full funding to pursue a graduate education at Stanford. In addition to the core Stanford degree program, each scholar will have additional opportunities for leadership training, mentorship, and cohort-based experiential learning.



The Director will provide strategic leadership and tactical management of the King Global Leadership Program — a customized series of programs, experiential learning opportunities, and special-access exposure to leaders associated with the Knight-Hennessy Scholars program — as well as the entire scholar experience. She/he will be responsible for developing and implementing programmatic frameworks and strategies, in addition to managing curriculum development, content creation, and speaker strategy. Managing a team of program and student-facing professionals, the Director will work in partnership with the Shriram Family Director and the leadership team to deliver an unparallelled leadership and community experience.


The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, a creative problem-solver, a conscientious colleague, and an enthusiastic team player with a depth of knowledge in program development, student experience, and team management. He/she will exhibit intellectual curiosity, solid judgment, an innovative spirit, technical expertise, and a commitment to managing both complex and simple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, start-up-like environment.




    Manage the King Global Leadership Program and student experience. This may include:

        Developing and implementing a complex and strategic program of experiential opportunities, speaker events, seminars, etc., that provide leadership skill development as well as a global view, based on input from scholars and the Shriram Family Director.

        Overseeing scholar affairs and the overall scholar experience.

        Overseeing, evaluating, and enhancing the mentorship and related scholar-support programs.

    Define distinctive competences, as well as develop and implement strategic goals, initiatives, policies, and frameworks for the King Global Leadership Program.

    Set the direction for administrative policy development for the student experience and program operations. Negotiate and influence issues of university-wide impact, as needed. Manage resource allocations for the King Global Leadership Program team.

    Direct the King Global Leadership Program team and provide leadership to achieve goals and vision of the organization. Responsible for hiring and retaining staff, career coaching, personal development for direct reports and accountable for the performance of employees.

    Serve as an ambassador for the Knight-Hennessy Scholars program, representing the program in a variety of settings including to potential future scholars and partners globally, and to graduate departments and programs at Stanford.

    As part of the Knight-Hennessy Scholars leadership team, serve as senior advisor to the Shriram Family Director and the Knight-Hennessy Scholar boards.

    Work closely with colleagues in admission and operations to ensure alignment and consistency across the organization.

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree and seven years of relevant experience, 10+ years preferred, in administrative and program development and management, or combination of education and relevant experience. Terminal degree strongly preferred.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


    Demonstrated strategic leadership, planning, and management skills.

    Strong knowledge of leadership training and curriculum development, speaker management, and student experience standards, trends and requirements.

    Excellent communication skills. Able to influence people, solve problems, trouble shoot, think creatively, and resolve conflicts.

    Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to cultivate collaborative relationships with faculty and able to anticipate faculty needs.

    Ability to demonstrate a high level of diplomacy in persuading and influencing a wide variety of people at various levels to achieve results.

    Ability to lead cross-functional teams toward a common goal. Ability to work effectively and collaborate with decision-makers across many levels of the organization.

    Knowledge of strategic analysis, data analysis, and planning.

    Exceptional negotiation and effective interpersonal skills.

    Attention to detail and accuracy.

    Expert analytical and problem solving skills.

    Ability to multi-task and manage deadlines.





    Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.

    Frequently sitting.

    Occasionally stand/walk, writing by hand, use a telephone, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 11-20 pounds.

    Rarely sort/file paperwork or parts, rarely twist/bend/stoop/squat.
