The Faculty of Engineering is seeking a passionate and experienced leader to fill the role of Director, Information Technology and Business Analysis (DITBA).  As the DITBA, you will be responsible for the provision of all IT support for the Faculty of Engineering, including technology development, support and services. Areas reporting to the DITBA include a Faculty Help Desk team and teams tasked with the design, development, operations and ongoing maintenance of Help Desk functions, network and server security and administration, end user operations, research, lab, classroom IT support, and business analysis for ongoing operational technology solutions.  You will be responsible for the procurement of ongoing third party IT solutions, and for supervising all project managers associated with implementation and operation of these products.

Reporting to the Assistant Dean, Operations, you will be responsible for analyzing the information technology needs of the Faculty of Engineering from a business, operational, and strategic perspective, and will determine immediate and long-range human resource and IT infrastructure requirements. 

Leadership and Management

  • Design and implement an organizational structure that supports the mission of IT Services. Design positions. Lead and assist in staff recruitment. Supervise team leads. Identify and implement solutions for staff training including customer service and other relevant skills.
  • Supervise the design of a fee for service client support model for research computing
  • Evaluate the newest and most innovative technologies to determine how these can help the Faculty.
  • Manage and plan technical standards and tend to the high-level information technology issues of the Faculty.
  • Make presentations to the Dean, Assistant Dean, Directors, APOs, Chairs, and committees for future and current IT infrastructure and service projects in the Faculty

Systems and Security

  • Oversee and monitor operation and maintenance of Faculty's wired networks in all locations across multiple building sites.
  • Forecast network growth and maintain current 5,600 managed ports across all buildings with existing space and future buildings.
  • Design and ensure adequate security policies are in place for securing Faculty's information store and communications.

Business Analysis

  • Conduct business analysis, supervise business analysts and project managers, and oversee the overall approach to technology in the Faculty of Engineering. Lead staff tasked with the job of determining business needs, and identifying solutions. Lead project managers tasked with project execution and success. Continually seek new and more effective solutions for supporting Faculty operations through technology.

This position operates with an extremely high degree of autonomy, and requires excellent problem-solving and interpersonal communication skills. Analysis and planning are integral parts of the position as the DITBA is the lead proponent of technological change, process development, and ongoing information technology operational effectiveness.

  • The Director will be a subject matter expert in the unique fields associated with the provision of networked information technology services. They will need high levels of knowledge around practical procedures, specialized techniques, and the discipline of information technology.
  • Undergraduate degree in a related field required; Master’s degree strongly preferred.
  • 6 years of progressively responsible supervisory experience in an IT leadership role required; demonstrated commitment to a leadership philosophy required.
  • The position requires excellence in people leadership, team building, project management, and organizing and motivating individuals around a common purpose.
  • Fluent in face to face communication, with tact, diplomacy, and a masterful level of empathic skill.

The Faculty of Engineering is one of the top five engineering schools in Canada, with 4,400 undergraduate (BSc) students and 1,500 graduate (MSc and PhD) students and more than $65 million in external research funding per year. In accordance with the Administrative Professional Officer Agreement, this position offers a comprehensive benefits package, which can be viewed at Faculty & Staff Benefits and annual salary range between $71,889 to $119,809.
