The Director, Faculty Information Technology Services provides strategic leadership with regards to information systems, processes, and associated technology in support of Faculty’s academic mission and priorities.  

Under the general direction of the Chief Administrative Officer, the Director, Faculty Information Technology (FIT) is responsible for oversight of design, development, implementation, operation and support of all enterprise infrastructure solutions in support of Faculty’s academic mission and priorities; ensuring compliance with University policies to achieve critical objectives, including information security and risk management at the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering. 


The incumbent will advise on and manage the visioning, planning, budgeting, development and performance/ effectiveness of the technical environment so that all hardware and software solutions are reliable, secure, user-friendly, and meet the Faculty’s needs, provides leadership on what emerging technologies should be introduced to ensure IT capabilities respond to the needs defined in the Faculty's and university academic plans. The incumbent has full managerial oversight of IT staff of the Faculty Information Technology Office.



Post graduate degree in the field of computer science, engineering, information systems or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Industry recognized or additional postsecondary certification in the field of IT security is desired.



Minimum ten (10) years’ experience in managing and administering complex Information Technology Systems in a diverse environment; Experience in a University environment, particularly in senior administrative settings, a strong preferred asset; Experience negotiating with service providers, establishing and monitoring service level agreements. Proven experience in IT infrastructure strategic planning and development, security methodologies, project management, structured analytical methods and policy development.



Expert level knowledge and extensive experience and skills in a wide range of technologies, tools, and methodologies as applied within a multi-constituency distributed environment; Leadership competencies and conflict resolution skills with ability to motivate teams in a multidimensional collaborative environment; Excellent judgment, decision-making abilities and negotiation skills; Ability to lead and motivate cross-functional, interdisciplinary teams to achieve tactical and strategic goals; Demonstrated ongoing career development through active and self-motivated professional development; High level of personal integrity, as well as the ability to professionally handle confidential matters, and show an appropriate level of judgment; High degree of initiative, dependability and independence; Superior analytical, evaluative, organizational, and problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to utilize logic and discretion in the interpretation of policy, procedures and guidelines; Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written; Demonstrated skills and experience managing multi-discipline staff with diverse skills in a unionized environment.

Demonstrated knowledge and skills with all manner of Microsoft products and services including server and desktop, operating systems, Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft SQL Server, web servers, clustering, virtualization, Document management systems, enterprise workflow automation tools, virtual printing, development tools and cloud services; High level of expertise working with networks, multi-tier distributed systems and complex professional system is also required.



Ability to drive change and build capabilities that effectively balance the needs between continuously exploring capabilities to optimize operational efficiency and delivering innovative and agile IT services and solutions; Excellent interpersonal skills to lead discussions with senior leaders and external partners in ways that support strategic planning and decision-making and to build consensus with business leaders; High degree of political acuity, tact, discretion and diplomacy; Proven leadership ability. Ability to lead calmly in a variety of situations; Excellent project management skills and the ability to plan, design, develop, and implement complex I.T. technology and system; Highly proactive with ability to effectively direct and manage a wide and dynamic range of duties/priorities simultaneously with conflicting deadlines, in a high-pressure/high-volume environment and continue to maintain the highest degree of accuracy, quality and autonomy at all times; Exceptional service orientation and commitment to high quality customer service.
