The Chair of Biological Imaging (CBI) at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and the Institute of Biological and Medical Imaging (IBMI) at Helmholtz Munich are an integrated, multi-disciplinary research unit, which provide bioengineering solutions to urgent societal needs. CBI scientists develop next-generation imaging and sensing methods to measure previously inaccessible properties of living systems, hence, catalyzing breakthroughs in biology, medicine, and the environment. Comprising 11 inter-disciplinary laboratories and scientists from more than 25 countries, CBI offers state-of-the-art infrastructure for innovative research and an ideal environment to accelerate your career.

The Mission:

The successful candidate will:
• Drive the institute director’s research projects and implement his research agenda in the field of optoacoustic imaging and sensing, advanced methods of data analysis, and clinical translation for early detection of disease and improved intervention.
• Act as lead scientist of third-party projects funded by national and international funding agencies (EU, BMBF, DFG, etc.).
• Lead and oversee cooperations with national and international partners from academia and industry
• Supervise scientists, postdoctoral researchers, PhD students, master and bachelor students of the institute director’s research group
• Deputize for the institute director as required: Represent at senior level at meetings, conferences, seminars and other events, locally, nationally and internationally.

Your profile:

The successful applicant must have the following:
• Ph.D. in electrical engineering, physics, optics, medical technology, natural sciences, biomedical computing, or a related discipline.
• Excellent track record of research achievements and publications in top-ranked journals.
• Proven leadership skills including record of successful supervision of PhD and postgraduate research students, strong motivation, scientific curiosity, and commitment to scientific excellence.
• Experience in optics, sensors, optoacoustics, lasers, ultrasound, advanced methods of data analysis, and clinical translation.
• Ability to work under minimal supervision on complex assignments, with a high degree of initiative and independent judgment.
• Team player skills and enthusiasm to work in a multi-disciplinary, collaborative environment.
• Excellent command of the English language.

The successful applicant will initially have a 2-year contract, with the possibility of extension. Salary will commensurate with work experience and seniority (TV-L E14 according to the public wage agreement of the Free State of Bavaria).
