Program Planning, Development & Renewal (PPDR) is a key department with pan-institutional responsibilities. As an integral part of Humber’s Centre for Innovative Learning, PPDR leads program planning and development, renewal and review, and collaborates on special projects, in partnership with the Faculties. PPDR also administers Humber’s Academic Quality Framework, a system of interrelated processes that, through a program lens, helps maintain and enhance Humber’s ability to provide optimal learning opportunities for students.

Dean, Program Planning, Development and Renewal

Role Profile

Reporting to the Senior Dean, Faculty of Liberal Arts & Sciences and Innovative Learning, the Dean, Program Planning, Development and Renewal is responsible for understanding and assessing changing academic needs to advise senior college leaders regarding the offering of academic programs and services, with a particular focus on quality assurance and program innovation. As the leader of Humber’s program development, renewal and review processes, the incumbent works closely with the Senior Dean, the Associate Vice President Academic, and Centre for Innovative Learning teams (Teaching Excellence, Digital learning, Flexible Learning) to foster a culture of continuous improvement in teaching and learning. Further, the incumbent is accountable for program-related institutional research projects and studies related to program development and renewal.

The incumbent is also responsible for developing and maintaining working relationships with representatives from the Postsecondary Education Quality Assessment Board, the Ministry of Colleges and Universities, Colleges Ontario, and the Higher Education Quality Council of Ontario (HECQO). In addition, the incumbent works collaboratively with College administrators, faculty members, curriculum committees and development groups to analyze development requirements, plan development activities and contribute to policy development. Finally, this position participates in several internal and external committees and projects including, but not limited to, the provincial College Degree Operating Group, the Humber Breadth Committee, and the Academic Framework Committee.


Minimum Qualifications


The successful candidate will have a graduate degree in a related field (Doctorate is preferred).


The successful candidate will have 10 years of related experience. In addition, the successful candidate will have:

  • Knowledge of the Ministry of Colleges and Universities, PEQAB, HEQCO and CAAT structures and responsibilities;
  • Historical understanding of the CAAT system, Ontario College program approval and program review processes, as well as government and Ministry reports and policy directives;
  • National and International knowledge and awareness of postsecondary practices, requirements, and trends, including in the areas of digital and flexible learning;
  • Specific knowledge and experience in the following areas: curriculum development and management, instructional design, assessment and measurement of learning outcomes, quality assurance, proposal development, management and leadership, organizational development, consensus building, conflict resolution.


  • Exceptional leadership skills, including collaboration and application of an EDI lens in the workplace;
  • Superior verbal and written communications skills, including presentation, facilitation, and negotiation skills;
  • Excellent planning, organizational and time management skills.
