Dean, Continuous Professional Learning

Role Profile

The Dean, Continuous Professional Learning, provides overall leadership and support of Humber’s Continuous Professional Learning (non-post-secondary) activities. Reporting to Senior VP Transformation and Strategic Partnerships, and with broad direction of the Senior VP Academic, the incumbent will bring together relevant internal leaders and stakeholders, to develop and implement a vision, strategy and supporting annual business plans that align to Humber’s strategic direction for Continuous Professional Learning (CPL).

Through collaboration, the Dean will bring together members of Humber’s Academic and Corporate Training teams for the successful development, management, administration, and delivery of continuous professional learning programs and services, including corporate training, with an emphasis on meeting learner, stakeholder and customer needs, increasing market share, and contributing to Humber’s net revenue goals.

To be successful in this role, the incumbent will:

  • Provide overall academic and administrative leadership for Humber’s Continuous Professional Learning Corporate Strategy, defining, developing, and leading the implementation of the strategy while ensuring the integration with the wider institutional strategic plan  flexible learning strategy. 
  • Maintain cross-faculty/departmental collaboration that leverages centralized/decentralized processes and approaches into a single, highly efficient delivery framework.
  • Lead the development of a comprehensive partnership plan focused on developing and executing business development and sales strategies that identify opportunities with existing/new clients while opening up new markets and lead to the achievement of established net revenue generation targets.
  • Advance Humber’s Continuous Professional Learning and Corporate Training profile externally as a superior institution for non-post-secondary development.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with exceptional drive, collaboration, relationship building, influencing, project management, and communication skills. The ideal candidate brings a curiosity for learning new things, a design thinking mindset, an entrepreneurial lens and a passion for improving team and organizational performance/operations. Having a background in leading and supporting initiatives in the areas of education, training, business and opportunity development, flexible learning, talent management, and change management would give the ideal candidate the edge.

Minimum Qualifications


The successful candidate will have a Master’s Degree in a related field (PhD is preferred).


The successful candidate will have 5-9 years of related experience. In addition, the successful candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in business development, entailing market research, sales, developing relationships with clients and negotiating contracts;
  • Track record of success in a leadership role within a large, complex multi-stakeholder Academic organization;
  • Track record of innovation in education, experience in curriculum development and design with proven capacity for leadership in Continuous Professional Learning;
  • Proven managerial experience and effective collaborative leadership, mentoring and team-building capabilities within a higher education environment;
  • Awareness of the latest trends in the area of Continuous Professional Learning
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, combined with dynamic and innovative leadership skills;
  • Demonstrated experience in needs assessment analysis, creative problem-solving, strategic planning, team development and the ability to secure cooperation of others; 
  • Experience in successfully implementing change within a complex organization;
  • Demonstrated experience in building a business unit; the hiring, training, motivating and evaluating of unionized/non-unionized staff; and,
  • Commitment to life-long learning and a willingness to explore new options/experiences.


  • Highly developed skills/training in operational management, budgeting, human resource management, marketing and promotion;
  • Superior interpersonal skills, cross-cultural skills and related judgment;
  • Superior verbal and written communications skills, including presentation skills; and,
  • Excellent planning, organizational and time management skills.
