Position Summary

Indiana University Northwest seeks a dynamic, innovative, and fairness-focused leader to serve as Dean of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education. The Dean serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of the college, providing visionary leadership and strategic direction for academic programs, faculty affairs, student success, budget management, and community engagement.

The Dean reports to the Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and oversees all aspects of the college’s academic, student, and external community dimensions in coordination with faculty and university leadership.

The College provides premier undergraduate and graduate education through on-campus, hybrid, and online programs, including collaboration with other IU regional campuses.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Provide strategic leadership fostering academic excellence, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement

  • Serve as a key member of campus academic leadership, contributing to campus-wide planning and policy

  • Manage and oversee the College’s $11 million budget, monitor revenue and expenditures, and allocate resources effectively

  • Advocate for funding and develop revenue-generating opportunities including grants and donor relationships

  • Collaborate with Deans from other regional campuses for joint academic programs

  • Lead faculty and staff, including exempt and non-exempt employees

  • Represent the College to alumni, donors, community partners, and accrediting bodies

Academic Excellence

  • Ensure the quality of programs and oversee faculty personnel processes including recruitment, performance management, and development

  • Make faculty administrative appointments and manage onboarding, mentoring, and annual review

  • Oversee accreditation processes and program reviews

  • Support faculty research and creative activity

Student Learning and Success

  • Supervise curriculum development, program evaluations, and ensure alignment with regional and institutional priorities

  • Establish vision and expectations for enrollment management, marketing, recruitment, and retention

  • Participate in initiatives to improve student success and support services

Financial Acumen

  • Manage budget allocations impacting academic excellence and student success

  • Identify alternative funding streams such as grants and other revenue-generating sources


Required Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate or terminal degree with credentials meriting full Professor rank in a discipline offered in the College

Preferred Qualifications

  • Progressive academic administrative experience

  • Strong managerial experience supervising faculty and staff

  • Commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching and research

  • Familiarity with accreditation processes in the College’s disciplines

  • Distinguished scholarship record

  • Understanding of contemporary higher education challenges and opportunities

  • Financial and budgetary management expertise

  • Reputation for integrity, transparency, accountability, and fairness

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
