The Kirby Institute is a leading global research institute dedicated to the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases. Established in 1986 in response to the then emerging HIV epidemic, the Kirby Institute now contributes to knowledge on a broad range of diseases, including viral hepatitis and sexually transmissible infections.


The Data Officer is responsible for distributing, collecting, entering, verifying and organising data from viral hepatitis and drug dependence clinical research studies. The incumbent will work predominantly with OpenClinica and ODK for clinical data collection and cleaning for projects conducted by the Viral Hepatitis Clinical Research Program and The National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC).


About the role


    $72K-$82K plus 9.5% superannuation and leave loading

    Fixed Term for 12 months

    Full-time (35 hours per week)


The responsibility of the Data Officer is to distribute, collect, verify, dispatch and organise secure storage of records relating to existing and new research studies; ensure data are in current format, enter data into study database; assist in design, implementation and maintenance pf electronic and hardcopy of file tracking procedures; code adverse event and serious adverse event data using MedDRA or other medical classification dictionary; ensure all data are collected and processed in accordance with standard operating procedures and ICH GCP.


About you


To be successful in this role you will have:


    A relevant degree or an associate diploma with data management experience or an equivalent level of knowledge of OpenClinica or other electronic data capture systems (EDCs) gained through a combination of education training and/or experience

    Demonstrated experience with clinical trial data

    Knowledge of regulations relating to clinical trials and clinical trial data management including ICH GCP

    Demonstrated understanding of relational databases and medical terminology

    Excellent initiative, analytical and problem-solving skills, capacity to meet deadlines and ability to pay close attention to detail
