Data Manager
Stanford University
United States

The Neuroscience of Addiction Laboratory, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Stanford University seeks a Data Manager to optimize systems for entry, storage, extraction, integration, and analysis of clinical, neuropsychological, electrophysiological, and brain imaging data from over 1000 (and growing) individuals participating in cross-sectional and longitudinal research studies of chronic effects of alcohol, HIV infection, and normal aging on the brain. The Data Manager will be responsible for day-to-day management of information workflow and data quality control, initially supporting current systems (see sibis.sri.com) while exploring ways to ensure future scalability, stability, and integrity of data storage using enhanced informatics tools and secure web-based technologies. The manger will need to work within the central computational infrastructure of the lab, which include a common development environment deployed on Linux servers, using web based issue trackers, documenting procedures and scripts on lab internal wiki pages, creating and deploying unit tests, and submitting scripts to central, version controlled repositories.

The ability to handle multiple projects and superior communication skills are central to this role, which include timely and clear responses to inquiries by lab members and collaborators. The data manager will also have the opportunity to apply mathematical techniques to model longitudinal changes in clinical, neuropsychological, and neuroimaging measures; integrate data across modalities; and perform statistical analysis. The lab provides a family-like environment with excellent work-life balance and is located a 5-minute walk from the Caltrain.

Duties include:

• Collect, manage and clean datasets.
• Employ new and existing tools to interpret, analyze, and visualize multivariate relationships in data.
• Create databases and reports, develop algorithms and statistical models, and perform statistical analyses appropriate to data and reporting requirements.
• Use system reports and analyses to identify potentially problematic data, make corrections, and determine root cause for data problems from input errors or inadequate field edits, and suggest possible solutions.
• Develop reports, charts, graphs and tables for use by investigators and for publication and presentation.
• Analyze data processes in documentation.
• Collaborate with faculty and research staff on data collection and analysis methods.
• Provide documentation based on audit and reporting criteria to investigators and research staff.
• Communicate with government officials, grant agencies and industry representatives.
