Corporate Engagement Fellow

The Office of Corporate Engagement, created in December 2020, serves to grow meaningful, mutually valuable interactions with companies of all sizes across all university activity with a focus on research collaboration.  This is accomplished through its mission:

  • Track, lead and grow university strategic corporate relationships
  • Expand resources for faculty to build lasting corporate research partnerships
  • Grow corporate engagements through expanded campus outreach staff support

The activities of the office seek to positively impact all aspects of corporate engagement with success measured via research gifts, sponsored research and related licensing revenue.

Corporate Engagement Fellow

The Office of Corporate Engagement (OCE) seeks a Corporate Engagement Fellow to provide post-doctoral fellows and/or recent PhD graduates the opportunity to work full-time for a period of up to three years with the OCE.  The position will be based at Cornell’s main campus in Ithaca, NY. 

The Corporate Engagement Fellow will report to the Director and support the following functions:

  • Work with the Director in coordinating meetings, plans events and action items in tracking and growing relationships with Cornell’s top corporate strategic partners.
  • Collect, organize and analyze disparate data from various groups across campus to create, refine and enhance the reports published by the office tracking partnership continuum activity.
  • Outreach to Cornell researchers (faculty, staff and students) with interest in developing corporate research partnerships by devoting significant time to meeting with researchers, identifying opportunities with OCE company contacts, and participating in on-campus seminars and events.  
  • Work to understand current university practices, agreements and organizations focused on corporate engagements.  Help identify opportunities for improvement and participate in developing and deploying strategies to create change.
  • Support specific business development efforts and business agreements working with outreach staff and OVPRI resources.
  • Support the development of new tools and information for faculty seeking to grow corporate research partnerships.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance Cornell’s reputation in working with companies leveraging media, marketing, events and conferences.

At the end of the term, successful Corporate Engagement Fellows will have gained significant experience to embark on a career in the directions of business development, corporate strategy, research development or academic/corporate relations management.

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD in a STEM discipline
  • Interest in corporate innovation, research strategy, technology commercialization, and/or entrepreneurship.
  • Excellent communication skills – listening, presenting, and writing – with different stakeholders from diverse background
  • Service-minded, detail-oriented individual who thrives in a demanding and collaborative team environment that encourages critical, strategic thinking with proven ability to also work and learn independently
