General Description

The Theory Course Coordinator (TCC) is responsible for teaching the theory component of the DNP Advanced Practice (AP) or DNP Executive curriculum, promoting student learning, and, when applicable, supporting integration of content with associated clinical courses. The TCC incorporates evidence-based practice, demonstrates expertise appropriate to the course level, and reports to the Track Coordinators, Program Director, and Associate Director.


Position Term

A semester-based appointment, renewable depending on program needs, satisfactory evaluations, and approval from the Track and/or Program Director.


Major Responsibilities

  • Guide, evaluate, and oversee students’ attainment of competencies.

  • Review and implement the course syllabus.

  • Maintain weekly office hours (minimum 2 hours) for student support.

  • Offer synchronous virtual sessions as needed for content reinforcement and student support.

  • Grade assignments promptly, providing constructive feedback aligned with course expectations.

  • Identify students at risk for not meeting outcomes; collaborate with the Track Director on corrective action plans and send written updates by mid-term and before the course end.

  • Check official JHU email daily (Mon–Fri) and respond within 48 business hours.

  • Demonstrate proficiency with online teaching platforms and digital tools; guide students and preceptors in navigating required systems.

  • Prepare, review, and manage the Canvas course site.

  • Follow the required syllabus template; ensure fixed elements (course name, credits, description, objectives, topical outline) remain compliant. Changes require DNP Curriculum Committee approval.

  • Maintain regular contact with the Track Director at key points:

    • Two weeks after semester start

    • After mid-course student evaluations

    • Before posting final grades

    • Anytime input or support is needed


Qualifications

  • Required:

    • MSN degree

    • Active, unencumbered RN and APRN license

    • Certification in the relevant specialty area

    • Minimum two years of direct advanced practice clinical experience

  • Preferred:

    • Doctoral degree

    • Experience as a clinical educator or preceptor

  • Additional Requirements:

    • Strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills

    • Professionalism and ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders

    • Proficiency in online teaching environments

    • Remote position with required synchronous online sessions

Salary Range
