Colorado School of Mines is seeking an Assistant Director of the Office of Institutional Equity, focused on fostering an inclusive and accessible campus environment.

In this integral role, you will play a pivotal role in advancing our commitment to compliance and support for individuals with disabilities. As our 504 Coordinator, you'll act as a key liaison with federal and state agencies, drive the development and implementation of innovative accessibility initiatives, and lead vital training programs for our faculty, staff, and students. You'll serve as the primary ADA/504 liaison with federal and state agencies and institutions, perform ongoing assessments, policies, procedures, and education for disability related grievances, compliance and campus accommodations. RESPONSIBILITIES

504 Compliance

  • Informational Responsibilities. Maintain current information regarding state and federal laws and regulations as well as best practices of other colleges/universities concerning the rights of persons with disabilities and ways of providing reasonable accommodations to persons with disabilities while maintaining program performance standards.
  • Notices of Nondiscrimination. Ensure the University’s nondiscrimination statements, access information, grievance procedures and other disability-related policies are posted and distributed as required.
  • Campus Accessibility. Assess and ensure that services, activities, and facilities are accessible to and usable by persons with disabilities. Ensure that appropriate processes are in place to provide for the prompt and equitable resolution of complaints and inquires from employees, students, and the public regarding compliance with applicable federal and state laws regarding discrimination on the basis of disability.
  • Assessment. Facilitate appropriate campus assessments for accessibility in order continuously monitor campus needs related to disability. 
  • Program, Policy and Procedure. Serve as the principal 504 compliance coordinator for Mines. Advise and collaborate with appropriate stake holders in the establishment of consistent University wide procedures for notification of rights, referral, evaluation, planning, and implementation for campus.
  • Collaboration. Collaborate with other University professionals who share overlapping responsibilities including Information Technology, Facilities and Grounds, Human Resources, Student Life, and Disability Student Services.
  • Visitor Services Provision. Receive and review requests from visitors to campus and provide response and facilitation of reasonable requests for services.

 

Intake and Inquiries

  • Perform intake meetings with parties to reports and complaints of discrimination and sexual misconduct in the absence of other OIE staff.
  • Perform prompt and impartial inquiries/investigations into disability related grievances including discrimination and accommodation disputes.
  • Facilitate or delegate facilitation of remedies for complainants.
  • Author reports for inquiries for the purpose of record keeping and party review.
  • Track and report on volume and frequency of intakes, referrals, communications, and formal/informal resolutions with complainants, respondents, and other parties.
  • Assist parties with supportive measures and referrals when appropriate.

 

Education

  • Work with appropriate campus offices to develop, deliver, and track education on topics including accommodations, grievances, access and rights as they relate to disability.
  • Develop and maintain written materials and other informational pieces to broadly disseminate information regarding the University’s policies relating to persons with disabilities.
  • Assist in delivering education for students and employees regarding Clery reporting, discrimination and sexual misconduct.
  • Track educational programming.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Student Development, Education, Law, Criminal Justice, or related/applicable field.
  • Four or more years of experience in case management of ADA/504 requests and/or grievances.
  • Working knowledge of applicable federal and state civil rights laws and regulations.
  • Ability to apply 504 requirements to achieve reasonable accommodations utilizing knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal laws/regulations relating to 504 accommodations.
  • Experience providing training, guidance, and education to various audiences and constituency groups.
  • Strong skills in the areas of conflict resolution and problem solving techniques.
  • Tact, discretion, professionalism, maturity and outstanding interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate, Masters, or advanced degree that contains theoretical and conceptual relevance to the responsibilities of the position.
  • Experience applying 504 requirements to achieve institutional compliance in a higher education setting.
  • In-depth understanding of Title VII, Title IX, the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), and regulatory agency guidance informing policy and practice around Title VII and Title IX.
  • Background in providing direct services to parties to complaints of policy violations.
  • Knowledge of complexities surrounding disability in a college setting.
  • Experience with Maxient Case Management system.

 

Salary and Benefits

$92,000 - 102,500 annual salary

Mines takes into consideration a combination of candidate’s education, training and experience as well as the position’s scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required in the role, work location, and external market and internal value when determining a salary level for potential new employees.
