Penn State Harrisburg is accepting applications for a Coordinator for Academic Success within the Russell E. Horn Sr. Learning Center. Reporting to the Director of Academic Support and Advising Services, the position will assist in providing academic support services to students, making accurate assessments of student needs, and effectively referring students within and beyond the Learning Center. Supporting students with the academic transition to and success in the classroom, the Coordinator for Academic Success will provide support to new, transfer, and continuing students by employing a developmental and culturally appropriate framework and methodology. The position will render support to campus-level initiatives related to the University’s strategic goals in the areas of retention, graduation, and closing persistence and achievement gaps for undergraduate students. As a member of the Learning Center staff, the position will provide academic coaching for students including but not limited to the following diverse populations: sophomore students, students on academic warning, students on and returning from academic suspension, high achieving students, international students, and first-generation students. For international students specifically, the Coordinator will provide programming to help international students with adapting to the American experience, provide tactics for improving English language skills, and coordinate the use of the Smart Pen technology. As a contributor to and partner of the Advising Center, the Coordinator for Academic Success will serve on the New Student Orientation committee and provide targeted outreach and focused advising to various student populations to support and engage their academic transition. The position will deliver workshops, develop programs, and carry out responsibilities in collaboration with other staff in the Learning Center and Advising Center, with other units on campus, and in collaboration with faculty, staff, and students whenever appropriate to promote and support student success initiatives. The position supervises two, part-time professionals. Successful applicant will embody and promote the values of inclusion, equity, and pluralism in all direct work with students and be sensitive to the needs of a diverse student population. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated experience working with and knowledge of students of diverse backgrounds is essential. Supervisory experience of professional staff required. Experience with budgets preferred. Evening hours expected when fall and spring classes are in session. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
