Coordinator and Business Developer
Catholic University of Leuven
Belgium

The Genomics Core is the largest sequencing facility in Belgium and performs every step in the NGS (Next Generation Sequencing) workflow for both diagnostics and research. As a partner in the European sequencing network, EASI genomics, we aim to harmonize and benchmark novel sequencing technologies. We offer a broad portfolio of NGS techniques. The aim is to expand our single cell and long read portfolio (Pacbio and Nanopore). The Genomics Core makes these novel techniques serviceable for all academic labs, companies and hospitals. We aim to synergize efforts in Belgium and within our European network to improve NGS services.

Responsibilities

The coordinator will perform techwatch on single cell and long read sequencing, both within and outside the KU Leuven teams, to identify budding technologies. He/she will optimize, implement and validate novel technologies in the Genomics Core (GC) together with the GC bioinformatics team.  He/she will manage the serviceable projects and communicate with clients.  The coordinator will network and link with the other core facilities to enable larger multidisciplinary projects.   She/he will create a framework for future collaboration, structure larger investments, leverage cost reductions by joint purchasing opportunities and optimize infrastructure use, help shaping the single cell initiatives, help in building the single cell institute(s) and strengthen collaborations within KU Leuven and VIB (Flemish Research Institute) as well as reach out towards the other Universities/institutes and the Flemish government. She/he will establish a permanent interaction with the Belgian infrastructures in the ESFRI roadmap (e.g. Elixir) in order to identify needs and solutions, and to define operational synergies. Finally, the coordinator is essential in shaping the ESFRI at the EU level and securing the Flemish/Belgian interests.

Profile

We are looking for an enthusiast person with a collaborations drive:

  • PhD in molecular biology and experience with NGS
  • Excellent networking skills
  • Analytical mindset with empathy towards other viewpoints
  • Able to defend their viewpoints while looking for synergies with others
  • Work experience outside of academia is a plus
