Position Summary

  • Provides expertise and assistance to the Institutional Ethics & Compliance Assistant Director of the Office of Audit, Risk and Compliance in enhancing the compliance program across Michigan State University.
  • Conducts compliance assurance reviews to evaluate and monitor the existing compliance environment; identifies and communicates potential risks and vulnerabilities to the Institutional Ethics & Compliance Assistant Director; and assists in establishing and/or strengthening new or existing compliance structures to enhance the university’s compliance with federal, state, and local laws, rules and regulations, as well as institutional policies.
  • Promotes an ethical culture with values including integrity, accountability and transparency.
  • Produces compliance assurance review reports and follows up on the resolution of identified issues with senior leadership and/or management of the compliance areas.
  • Assists in the compilation and maintenance of a master record (compliance matrix) of legal and regulatory requirements and the names of individuals who are on record as having the duty to assure compliance.
  • Provides regular update reports to the Institutional Ethics & Compliance Assistant Director.
  • Assists the Institutional Ethics & Compliance Assistant Director in identifying key policy gaps or training opportunities.
  • May serve as a representative for compliance on internal regulatory related committees/advisory boards.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year degree program in accounting or related field; three to five years of related work experience in assessing compliance risks preferably in an academic, research or other complex compliance environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field and three to five years of related work experience; experience with data analytic software; professional certifications (e.g., CCEP, CFE, CHC, CIA); strong computer skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills.
