Community Director Residence EducationApply now Job no: 695246 Position SummaryProvides leadership, management, supervision, and development for a residence hall or apartment community; provides high level customer service and creates a community that fosters academic excellence and personal growth for its residents; promotes an inclusive living learning environment and partners with a diverse group of staff, students, and faculty to develop and implement programs that promote the mission of the University. The Community Director is responsible for following the policies and procedures of Residence Education and Housing Services, Residential and Hospitality Services, and the University; is responsible for a variety of administrative, operational and conferences functions associated with the management of the residence hall/apartment community. The position provides supervision to the Operations Coordinator, Community Support Team Members and Assistant Community Directors. This is a Pool posting so there is an anticipated 3 – 4 vacancies. Unit Specific Education/Experience/SkillsKnowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one or two years of post-bachelor degree work, such as a Masters' degree in a human services related field, such as in student personnel, counseling, or a related field; one to three years of full time related and progressively more responsible or expansive professional experience as a director in a residence hall or apartment community; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Desired QualificationsDemonstrated skills of leadership and communication, maturity, a well-developed sense of responsibility, sensitivity to individual differences, a positive self-concept, and an understanding of how to promote student learning and academic success; an obvious interest and enthusiasm for working with students are desirable characteristics for professional, pre-paraprofessional and paraprofessional staff members. Qualifications for housing officer positions can be gained through formal academic preparation, workshops, active research, self-study, work experience, participation in professional organizations, and in-service training. Well-rounded and effective housing officers gain knowledge through each of these methods. The following qualifications for the respective housing officer positions are desired: housing officer in charge of individual or small groups of residence halls – depending on the size/capacity of living area, a master’s degree in college student personnel, counseling or related field OR a bachelor’s degree AND relevant paraprofessional or pre-professional experience.
