Applications are invited for appointment as Centre Manager (at the rank of Administrative Assistant I) to be seconded to The University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen) Teaching Hospital Limited and assigned to work in the HKU-Shenzhen Hospital (Ref.: 497138), to commence as soon as possible, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance.

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) has been collaborating with Shenzhen Government to develop the HKU-Shenzhen Hospital as a teaching hospital of HKU. With the presence of HKU, a new operation model for the Hospital has been introduced, aiming at providing high-quality services from primary to tertiary levels to patients in the region, whilst sustaining a teaching and training mission well supported by a robust research component.

Hong Kong Academy of Medicine (“HKAM”) was established by the HKAM Ordinance (Cap 419) in 1993, which is an independent institution with statutory power to organize, monitor, assess and accredit all medical and dental specialist training in Hong Kong. It also provides and accredits continuing medical education and continuous professional development for the purpose of specialist registration. The Shenzhen-Hong Kong Specialist Training Centre is jointly established by the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine and Shenzhen Medical Doctor Association, aiming to promote the development of specialist training system in Shenzhen and Greater Bay Area. As the Centre is located at the HKU-Shenzhen Hospital in Shenzhen, travelling to Mainland China is required.

Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree with at least 10 years’ relevant experience and over 5 years at managerial level; good understanding of culture and solid work exposure in Mainland China; excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese (fluent Putonghua being a must); and good supervisory and people management skills. They should be independent, and able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines. Those with knowledge of medical education/specialist training system of Hong Kong and/or China and work experience in medical/healthcare-related sector are preferred.

Reporting to the governing committee of the Centre, the appointee’s main responsibilities include the following:

  • Lead a team to set up and manage the daily operations of the Centre, including but not limited to the establishment of office policies and procedures, staff management, budget preparation and monitoring, and coordination with various internal and external parties on collaborative projects and initiatives;
  • Work closely with HKAM and its constituent Colleges, as well as other key stakeholders (e.g. personnel from the HKU-Shenzhen Hospital, HKU, and officials from Shenzhen Government) to organise meetings/activities and handle logistics to facilitate exchange of advice with the Shenzhen counterparts in the review and development of respective specialist training system;
  • Provide/Arrange secretarial support and associated logistics for different committees of the Centre;
  • Provide support in the review and development of the Academy’s training guidelines and curricula;
  • Undertake other tasks and projects as required by the Centre.

The appointee will be required to work irregular hours and frequently travel to China or station in Shenzhen when needed.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.
