Business Innovation

Research Innovation

Research & Innovation Services (RIS) provides dedicated, specialist support throughout the research and innovation lifecycle, helping to sustain and advance UCL’s position as a world-class, research-led university. The team’s remit covers awards, contracts, compliance and assurance, planning, insight, and improvement, ensuring that UCL’s research and innovation activities are conducted to the highest standards and have maximum impact.

About the role

Context

We seek a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our team as the Costing and Pricing Awareness and Advisory Manager. This role involves developing and delivering training programs and an advisory service to embed new costing and pricing practices for industrial collaborations across UCL’s faculties. The successful candidate will identify advisory needs, provide support and training on negotiations, and foster a culture of best practices in costing and pricing.

Main Purpose of the Job

  • Develop and deliver awareness, advisory, and training programs, including seminars, guides, and training videos.
  • Raise awareness of new costing and pricing practices and build positive relationships to embed these principles.
  • Provide advisory services on costing and pricing for industry funding and support negotiations.
  • Monitor and update training programs to ensure their effectiveness.
  • Build relationships across UCL’s faculties to embed new principles and address issues.

Key Working Relationships

Work with stakeholders across UCL’s faculties, including the TRO, Life and Medical Sciences, Brain Sciences, and Population & Health Sciences, as well as the wider Innovation & Enterprise team, Deans, Vice Deans of Enterprise, Faculty Managers, Operational leads, and PIs.

About you

Duties and Responsibilities

Raise Awareness

  • Network and liaise to promote new costing and pricing principles, outlining their implementation context in industry-funded programs.
  • Facilitate the embedding of principles across departments and faculties by working with responsible individuals to clarify requirements and decision-making processes.
  • Promote understanding of how UCL’s costing and pricing principles enable equitable partnerships with industry funders.
  • Encourage good practices in negotiations with industrial partners.

Costing and Pricing Policy Training

  • Create and deliver tailored training programs to academics and staff where needed, including web-based seminars, printed guides, group sessions, and training videos.
  • Monitor and update training programs to ensure effectiveness and relevance.
  • Report progress to senior management and modify materials to meet specific needs.
  • Schedule and present in-person and online training sessions and create guides and materials.

Advisory (Governance and Continuous Improvement)

  • Provide advice and support for the costing and pricing of identified projects according to policy.
  • Advise academics and departmental administrators on project finances and strategies to ensure full cost recovery.
  • Develop insights for continual process improvement and informed decision-making.
  • Undertake duties in line with UCL policy and carry out any other duties commensurate with the grade and purpose of the post.
