The Associate Director, Student Development and Engagement plays a key role in establishing integrated business plans and a client service model for the unit. The Associate Director is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing faculty-wide student development and engagement curriculum, programs and initiatives. The role develops and maintains relationships with external partners, employers, alumni, post-secondary institutions and associations regarding case competitions and generating new experiential opportunities and initiatives for student development. The Associate Director manages engagement advising and student development support services; and manages the unit's budgets and systems, including resource requirements, allocation, and deployment.



  • Masters degree in Business Administration, Education or related discipline, and three years of related experience in management, student development and programming, marketing, and project and event management; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of post-secondary student affairs theories and practices (i.e., student development, engagement, etc.).
  • Good knowledge of business functional areas or industries (i.e., marketing, technology, finance, banking, consulting, etc.).
  • Excellent public speaking, interpersonal, and communication (verbal, written, and presentation) skills.
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, organizational, facilitation, training, and teamwork skills. 
  • Ability to design, implement, assess and evaluate career education programs and services.
  • Ability to develop metrics and evaluation systems and evaluate the effectiveness of programs and services.
  • Ability to collaborate with and provide coaching and advising services to highly demanding clients.
  • Ability to lead multiple team projects, and interact with the business community and alumni to develop partnerships.
  • Ability to work under pressure, plan ahead, and deal with difficult individuals while maintaining composure.
  • Good knowledge of marketing best practices and event or recreation risk management best practices.
  • Proficiency with data collection and analysis, including an understanding of database systems and the use of online technology.
