The program emphasizes the development of skills in critical thinking and formal, persuasive writing. Position OverviewAs Academic Coordinator, the incumbent would serve as Associate Director (AD), responsible for the day-to-day oversight and administration of the Humanities Program, including program planning, which includes obtaining resource planning, curriculum development, implementation, assessment, and strategic vision. This requires communication and collaboration with other College units, including Academic Advising and Student Affairs, to integrate the curricular and co-curricular aspects of College life. The AC must also work closely with UCSD faculty, UCSD programs, and off-campus partners to develop the Program, this includes coordination with the Writing Hub, the Engaged Teaching Hub, Analytic Writing Program, and the office of Academic Integrity, to ensure that students have the necessary resources for succeeding in their HUM courses. The AD is also responsible for increasing visibility and understanding of the program on campus as well as within the region. As a Lecturer, the AD is expected to teach three large-enrollment courses in the program per academic year. This is a fiscal-year (12-month) appointment with eligibility for continued appointment per UC guidelines. The Academic Coordinator appointment is eligible for reappointment and merit every 2 years. The Lecturer appointment is eligible for reappointment annually. While appointment percentage for each appointment may vary based on teaching load, the combined percentage will always total 100%.
