Description

Curriculum Development and Management

  • Lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of the Yale School of Medicine medical school curriculum.
  • Work with the directors of pedagogy, student assessment, and faculty development in the Center for Medical Education to design and implement new pedagogies that enhance student engagement in attaining competency.
  • Ensure the curriculum aligns with the standards and values of the Yale System of medical education, the Liaison Committee for Medical Education (LCME) accreditation standards, and the institution's strategic goals.
  • Assume responsibility for planning, development, evaluation, enhancement, and administrative and faculty support related to the curriculum.
  • Direct, support, and mentor curriculum directors to ensure a robust academic program across all years of the curriculum, including pre-clerkship, clerkship, and advanced training periods.
  • Collaborate closely with the offices of Student Affairs, Student Research, and Global Health Education to support students in all areas of training and across a wide range of learning activities.
  • Support initiatives to ensure student wellness, diversity, and educational progress. 

Faculty and Staff Collaboration

  • Maintain collaborative relationships with the library, simulation center, Center for Medical Education, Office of Diversity, Inclusion, Community Engagement and Equity (DICE), and classroom, AV, and IT services.
  • Collaborate with the DICE office to jointly support the leadership of the curricular equity thread and ensure that curricular faculty, staff, and leadership are diverse, inclusive, and equitable, and appropriately trained to educate students on issues of race, sex, gender, disability, and similar concepts in the delivery of healthcare.
  • Participate in or liaison with individuals or committees important to the maintenance of the curriculum and its interaction with student, clinical, university, and community partners.

Assessment and Evaluation:

  • Ensure that student assessment is consistent with the Yale System of medical education and provides appropriate summative and formative assessment for successful student development and advancement.
  • Develop and oversee a comprehensive assessment strategy to evaluate student performance and curriculum effectiveness.
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation standards through regular review and documentation of curricular activities.
  • Ensure program evaluation is aligned with accreditation standards and continuous quality improvement.
  • Analyze assessment data to inform curriculum improvements and report outcomes to relevant stakeholders.

Data Management and Reporting:

  • Disseminate and respond to data from AAMC surveys such as the Matriculation Student Questionnaire, Year Two Questionnaire, Graduation Questionnaire, and Mission Management Tool with educational leaders in the curriculum.
  • Improve the learning environment by monitoring, reviewing, and addressing reports of harassment, mistreatment, and bias in the UME learning environment. Collaborate closely with DICE, OAPD, the Office of Student Affairs, the Deputy Dean, Chief Diversity Officer, and the University Title IX coordinator to address these reports as needed.
  • Oversee the strategic, operational, and financial planning processes related to the MD program curriculum, strategizing with the Deputy Dean for Education on policy and program development, and problem resolution, ensuring implementation plans are effectively developed, communicated, managed, and executed. 

Leadership and Governance:

  • Provide leadership over the activities of the Office of Curriculum.
  • Chair the Educational Policy and Curriculum Committee.
  • Serve as an ex officio member to represent curricular elements in the Academic Progress Committee.
  • Commit to an inclusive environment with an ethos of respect, mutual support, and professionalism focusing on and addressing the needs of those who are underrepresented in medicine.
  • Perform related duties as required or assigned by the Deputy Dean for Education.

This position is approximately 80% FTE.

Qualifications

 Educational and Professional Background:

  • MD, PhD, or equivalent terminal degree in a health-related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in medical education, with a focus on curriculum development and assessment.
  • Demonstrated experience in academic leadership and administration.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
