Role Overview

The Associate Dean reports to the Dean and provides strategic academic leadership and administrative oversight for undergraduate programs. Responsibilities span curriculum development, student affairs, faculty mentorship, program quality assurance, and representation of the Faculty in university-wide matters.

• Acts as a key resource for academic policies, curriculum, student conduct, and faculty-student issues

• Chairs the Faculty Curriculum Committee

• Oversees student awards and supports faculty mentorship programs

• Collaborates on interdisciplinary curriculum development and innovative pedagogy

• Participates in broader Faculty and University strategic initiatives

• Teaching responsibility: 1 course per year

Key Responsibilities

1. Academic Leadership & Program Development

   • Promote quality and visibility of undergraduate education

   • Lead interdisciplinary curriculum initiatives

   • Oversee Periodic Program Reviews and curricular delivery

2. Student Affairs

   • Address academic appeals and student concerns

   • Support student engagement and co-curricular initiatives

3. Faculty Support

   • Facilitate mentorship opportunities

   • Advise Chairs on complex faculty and student issues

4. Administrative & Strategic Responsibilities

   • Represent the Faculty in University and Faculty committees

   • Oversee student and faculty awards

   • Participate in operational and strategic initiatives assigned by the Dean

Qualifications & Competencies

• Must be a tenured faculty member with a terminal degree

• Demonstrated excellence in teaching, SRC (scholarship, research, creative activities), and service

• Leadership and management skills: visionary, collaborative, empathetic, data-informed decision-making

• Curriculum expertise: design, implementation, review, and innovation

• Commitment to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (EDIA)

• Experience mentoring faculty and students, especially from underrepresented groups

• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills

• Familiarity with academic administrative processes (Senate approval, quality assurance, program reviews)

Assets:

• Prior academic administrative experience (Program Director, Chair)

• Experience integrating SRC into curriculum innovation
