Associate Dean for Student Affairs - School of MedicinePosition OverviewOrganization: Dean of Medicine Title: Associate Dean for Student Affairs - School of Medicine Position DetailsPosition DescriptionThe Associate Dean for Students Affairs (ADSA) is an integral member of the senior management team and provides strategic oversight and central support for the University of Washington School of Medicine’s (UWSOM) undergraduate medical education program. The ADSA leads the efforts to provide innovative and comprehensive medical student support for the UWSOM across the 5 state WWAMI (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho) region. UWSOM partners with five universities and multiple healthcare organizations to administer the medical education program to over 1,100 medical students. The Student Affairs Office includes 25 staff who report to 3 assistant deans. The assistant deans and the student affairs director report to the ADSA. There is opportunity for the new ADSA to assess and restructure the Student Affairs office to maximize success, recruitment, and retention. The current roles for the 3 Assistant Deans are as follows:
The unit is based in Seattle, WA, and provides services to students across the WWAMI region. Additional staff are located at each regional campus for the delivery of academic skills support and counseling and wellness services. The ADSA works in collaboration with the associate and assistant deans for Academic, Rural and Regional Affairs (ARRA) and Healthcare Equity, and the College faculty mentors to maximize support for students and student success across the WWAMI region. The ADSA will have frequent written and oral interactions with the senior executives and professional staff within UW Medicine and with deans, faculty, professional staff, and medical students throughout the WWAMI region. The associate dean for student affairs is a 0.8 FTE position in the UWSOM. This position will have a faculty appointment in one of the UWSOM departments appropriate for background and experience. This is a 12-month service period position (July – June) with an anticipated start date in summer 2022. To view an organizational chart, UWSOM Org Chart QualificationsEducational Requirements Terminal degree from an accredited college or university (e.g. M.D., D.O., Ph.D., Ed.D.), preferably in medicine, educational administration, counseling, organizational behavior, or other related field. Work Experience Requirements Three years or more of administrative experience in a medical school setting, including supervision and evaluation of full-time faculty and/or staff, student and student services in a medical education program area. Licensure Requirements If the successful candidate is an M.D. or D.O., they must have board certification and the ability to obtain an unrestricted Washington medical license. Travel to regional WWAMI sites is required. Therefore, the successful candidate must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check and possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in their state of residence.
