Position descriptionThe Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing is seeking an academically distinguished nurse scientist, with exceptional collaborative and entrepreneurial leadership abilities, to become the Associate Dean for Research and Scholarship, an architect of the School’s research enterprise and to hold a tenured Professor or Associate Professor faculty position. An earned PhD or equivalent from an accredited institution in Nursing or related field, evidence of a distinguished program of research and scholarly activity, and qualifications for a tenured faculty position at the rank of Full Professor or Associate Professor are required. The UCI Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing, set within a nationally ranked public university for NIH funding, offers a world class program shaping the nursing profession and serving Orange County and the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area, which has a population exceeding 18 million people. As an integral part of UCI, the School has been committed to innovative research, quality clinical care, and nursing education at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Led by Dean Mark Lazenby, RN, PhD, FAAN, the School’s mission is to “produce leaders in research, education, and clinical practice who will champion collaborative, compassionate, and interdisciplinary evidence-based practice.” The School’s faculty and staff are committed to the tripartite mission inclusive of education, research, and service. The Associate Dean for Research and Scholarship will provide leadership for this exciting time as the University and School of Nursing meet the needs of our diverse community and expand our programs and scholarship. The new Associate Dean will be the scientific leader of the organization and is expected to be a nationally recognized scholar in their field of study with a demonstrated ability to serve as a mentor and champion for faculty research. The Associate Dean is responsible for providing leadership, guidance, and mentorship in research to faculty, students, and staff in advancing the research program of the School. The Associate Dean will serve as the institutional leader who shapes and directs the strategic scientific vision for the School. They will identify and facilitate research collaborations among faculty within the School and between the School and other research units across UCI, other UC campuses, and in the community. The Associate Dean will also strengthen the School by identifying new ideas and opportunities to expand research initiatives and increase the impact both of the institution and individual researchers – including key relationships with other UCI entities. The Associate Dean will recruit, lead, and retain talent committed to the principals of producing high quality research in alignment with the strategic and operational goals of the School and UCI. They will promote and increase the national standing of the School by their own work, as well as assisting the most talented scientists to achieve national and international recognition. The Associate Dean will administratively supervise the School's research activities, including pre- and post-award management of grants.
