The University of Washington School of Nursing (UWSoN) is currently accepting applications and nominations for its Associate Dean for Research (ADR). Reporting to the Executive Dean, the ADR will hold a year-round, full-time appointment at the rank of Professor level with tenure. Note that all UW faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.  The ADR will provide visionary leadership that promotes the growth and innovation of the faculty in UWSoN, as well as, advancing the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in the research context and consistent with the UWSoN’s strategic goals. The ADR will be expected to use research to inform policy and/or clinical practice to advance the scientific mission of the UWSoN and will be expected to develop future directions for health-related research in the UWSoN.  The ADR will work with state and federal regulations and compliance requirements on human, animal and biological safety; conflict of interest, scientific ethics, patent, and other intellectual property matters.

Responsibilities of the Associate Dean for Research include, but are not limited to:

  • Directing the Office of Nursing Research (ONR) which is committed to providing a school-wide system to support research for faculty and students.
  • Leading school-wide research policy, planning, initiatives, and coordination.
  • Providing research mentorship of faculty, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows.
  • Assuring school-wide scientific integrity training and management of conflicts of interest.
  • Consulting on grant writing support, statistical methods, and extramural grant proposals.
  • Setting policies for the allocation of school-wide research space and biobehavioral laboratories (e.g., biochemical, physiologic testing, immune function, molecular genetics, and sleep research facilities).
  • Providing peer review and allocation of school-wide intramural grant awards.
  • Acting as a liaison between the SoN and interdisciplinary ADRs at the University of Washington, SoN Center Directors, ITHS, Department Chairs, Vice Chairs of Research, and the Office of Research Administration.
  • Representing the School to external funding agencies.
  • Promoting international/cooperative research arrangements with public/private agencies.
  • Developing and implementing grant writing workshops for faculty, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows.
  • Informing faculty of NIH funding priorities and available funding opportunities.
  • Facilitating and enhancing opportunities for faculty, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows to successfully compete for financial support.

Qualifications

  • Candidate must have earned a doctoral degree or foreign equivalent and have the academic credentials to qualify for the professor rank in their designated academic series.
  • The School welcomes applicants with research interests in nursing or other health-related fields.
  • Evidence of a successful and sustained program of interdisciplinary research. 
  • Demonstration of currently funded program of research, and a national reputation for facilitating faculty research and scholarship.
  • Expertise in health or healthcare related research.
  • Requires demonstrated administrative experience in an academic setting; administrative experience in a non-academic health care setting will also be accepted.
  • Demonstrated record of national research innovation and leadership in a health-related field.
  • Experience working with federal and foundation funding opportunities.
