The individual selected will also be appointed as a tenured faculty member at the associate or full professor level in an appropriate department in the college. The College of Engineering is one of the oldest and largest colleges at MSU, the original land-grant institution in the United States. The College has been graduating bachelors-level engineers since 1888 and began granting master's degrees in 1901 and PhDs in 1946. The College currently has 6,200 undergraduate students, with 22 percent of them women and 8 percent underrepresented minorities. The College also has almost 1,000 graduate students and about 30,000 alumni. There are 235 tenure-system faculty members, 125 fixed-term faculty and academic staff, and 115 support staff members in the College. Research is highly interdisciplinary, with themes spanning eight (8) departments including computational sciences, energy, health, manufacturing, materials, mobility, security, and sustainability. Degrees are offered in biomedical engineering; biosystems and agricultural engineering; civil engineering; environmental engineering; chemical engineering; materials science and engineering; computational mathematics, science and engineering; computer science and engineering; electrical engineering; computer engineering; mechanical engineering, and applied engineering sciences. External research expenditures are $50 million annually. Student enrollment demands suggest continued steady growth of instruction, research and staff. In partnership with the Dean and College leadership, the ADID will have overall responsibility for College policy, practice and programmatic initiatives designed to enhance and maintain an inclusive culture, enhance diversity and foster professional and leadership development for faculty, students and staff.
