Position description

Under the supervision of the Director of the Academic and Research Programs, the Assistant Director (Academic Administrator) is responsible for the management and development of significant analytic projects and assignments involving learning and data analytics. The incumbent provides detailed analyses of UCLA programmatic and initiative based efforts that support UCLA Academic Advancement Program’s (AAP) research agenda providing insights related to AAP and its students.

Job responsibilities include but not limited to overseeing the administration of AAP-wide survey efforts, managing assessment projects, evaluating and interpretation of data gathered through the continuous, annual surveys internal and external to AAP, and utilizing valid and reliable research methods to gather, analyze, and report data on issues relevant to student learning and success. The Assistant Director is responsible for developing research training materials for undergraduate students to explore students’ experiences in AAP, better informing research protocols and instruments for future assessments. The incumbent also oversees AAP course evaluations, review, and revision process. The Assistant Director is responsible for supervising and training AAP graduate students researchers (GSRs) and undergraduate research assistants (RAs). The Assistant Director works collaboratively with academic departments, administrative units, faculty, staff, and students to develop and coordinate assessment and report results to both technical and non-technical audiences.

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D.; extensive experience creating, updating, and maintaining Institutional Review Board (IRB) or Human Subjects applications; demonstrated advanced knowledge of SPSS/PC (or related software) for descriptive and inferential statistics including but not limited to appropriate use and interpretation of T-tests, chi square and analysis of variance, factor analysis, correlation, and regression; demonstrated ability to conduct large-scale database analysis and survey research in an applied setting, including development of assessment instruments (e.g., creation of variables, scales, constructs, etc.), administration strategies, (e.g., sampling, timing, incentives), data analysis plan, and data summary reports; demonstrated ability to blend technical knowledge and expertise with engaging platform skills, excellent verbal/writing skills and the ability to communicate complex information to both technical and nontechnical staff; demonstrated ability to conduct large-scale database analysis and survey research in an applied setting, including development of instruments, creation of meaningful variables, sampling, content and timing; ability to present abstract analyses in a meaningful way to non-technical audience involved in policy decision making and practice; and ability to read large electronic data files, merge them with internal and external data sources, and generate statistical results using proprietary and homegrown software. Desirable qualities include familiarity of UCLA programs and services.

The Research, Assessment and Evaluation unit is charged with designing, implementing, and troubleshooting database applications for tracking and monitoring progress and quantitative outcomes of all AAP students, as well as the activities of AAP. The Academic Advancement Program is part of the Division of Undergraduate Education and is committed to access, equity, and excellence. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Position salary range is $62,113/year to $78,205/year.

Position remains open until filled. This is a full-time (100% time) position, with a projected May start date.
