ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF FINANCIAL OPERATIONS FOR STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS, Student Activities, to provide support, advice, and direction to MIT students, student activities, clubs, and organizations, particularly in the area of budgeting and financial stewardship. Will provide financial and administrative advising and training to student organizations and individual students and oversee the financial activities and services related to student organizations. The primary focus will be on financial education for student groups and assisting them in effectively transitioning from year to year. Responsibilities include providing daily financial service to student organizations, i.e., processing and distributing checks, processing requisitions and transfers, posting bank deposits, troubleshooting problems, opening new accounts, managing merchant accounts with vendors and servicing departments, and working with Procurement and Accounts Payable; researching and implementing new and improved ways to meet the needs of student groups and advising student organizations on budgeting effectively and ethically; collaborating with DSL Administration and Finance and the Vice President for Finance Office to ensure policy alignment and compliance; and collaborating with other Student Activities staff on projects.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: four years’ related experience; background and skills in database management, accounting, advising, financial analysis and organizational management; ability to work in a busy environment and to meet deadlines despite frequent interruptions; flexibility; ability to work independently and as part of a team; ability and willingness to work with a diverse population of students; and discretion with confidential information. Knowledge of OrgSync (now Engage) and SAP strongly preferred. A master’s degree in higher education administration or related area preferred. Knowledge of MIT and experience working with students desirable. Job #17125-O

Salary range: low to mid $70s, depending upon experience
