Purpose:
The Department of Psychology’s Clinical Program is CPA- and APA-accredited, and its faculty members are a diverse and dynamic group of scientist-practitioners. The York University Psychology Clinic (YUPC) facilitates research and clinical instruction in psychological interventions for health and mental health. It supports the Department of Psychology in the Faculty of Health at York University and enhances the Department’s international reputation as a center for excellence. It also attracts outstanding graduate applicants/students and supports programmatic accreditation processes. 


The primary goals of the clinic are to: (a) provide progressive, state-of-the-art training to graduate students training as scientist-practitioners in Psychology; (b) enable empirical investigation of “real world” effectiveness of clinical practices for key health and mental health disorders; (c) promote knowledge translation and exchange in evidence-based practices with local, national and international partners; and, (d) offer excellent assessment and intervention services to both York University, and the community surrounding York University.

The Assistant Director has primary responsibility for: providing leadership in the development, management and delivery of clinical services geared to the training needs of graduate students as they progress through their graduate training in clinical and clinical-development psychology and; risk and financial management of the services these students will be delivering to the general public. Specifically, the Assistant Director is responsible for coordinating intake training and delivery, developing and evaluating training experiences for approximately 25–30 graduate students on an annual basis, supervising a smaller cadre of students and providing direct clinical services to clientele with more serious mental health concerns. The latter two responsibilities are important revenue streams for the clinic and the incumbent’s performance is tied to meeting revenue generation targets from these services.

Further this position is responsible for the oversight and human resource management of administrative and supervisory personnel within the clinic and development and management of research initiatives.

Finally, as a member of the clinic’s leadership team, the Assistant Director works collaboratively with key stakeholders and the Director in the: development and implementation of the clinic’s strategic plan, development and management of the clinic’s continuing education program, and financial management of clinic’s annual budget.
 
Education:
Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, Registration with the College of Psychologists of Ontario with declared competency in assessment and intervention services across the lifespan with children, youth and adults.
 
Experience:
Minimum of 10 years recent relevant clinical experience post registration with children, youth and adults, with particular expertise in clinical supervision, the assessment of learning disabilities, and the provision of therapy with a clearly defined integrative framework.
 
Skills:
Demonstrated skill in cognitive and psychodiagnostic assessment, and the delivery of effective therapeutic interventions for a range of clinical disorders. Demonstrated required skills include: Clinical experiences with children, youth and adults. Working knowledge and experience with training and supervision of graduate trainees. Excellent oral and written communication. Interpersonal/relationship building skills. Ability to be flexible and adaptable given the fluctuating nature of referrals and the multiple demands of the position. Ability to exercise good judgment, tact diplomacy, efficient and be sensitive in all interactions. Proven planning, coordination and organizational skills. Ability to assess problem situations, recognize issues and use good judgment to devise creative solutions. Ability to resolve conflict.
