Under the supervision and direction of the Associate Director of Campus Recreation for Programs, the Assistant Director for Competitive Sports will provide leadership and management of all aspects of the Competitive Sports programs, through Club Sports and Intramural Sports programming. Campus Recreation is a department within the division of Student Affairs that provides recreation and wellness programs to the campus community through the operation and administration of the following: IM Building, McCoy Natatorium, Stone Valley Outdoor Recreation Area, Tennis Center, White Building, Hepper Fitness Center, Outdoor Adventures, Aquatics, Club Sports, Fitness and Wellness Programs, and Intramural Sports. Campus Recreation is comprised of 53 full-time staff and more than 900 student staff members.The Assistant Director is responsible for the overall leadership of both Club Sports and the Intramural Sports programs within the Department of Campus Recreation. Specific responsibilities include program management, supervision, student development, and budget management. The Penn State Club Sports program promotes student participation in a wide variety of athletic activities, provides opportunity for student competition at various levels of play, and fosters the development of student leadership. There are approximately 57 clubs with more than 3,000 student participants. The Intramural Sports program is comprised of more than 34 IM sports programs with approximately 9,000 unique participants. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Master’s Degree in educational administration, recreation or sport management, physical education, or a related field is preferred. Five years of experience managing collegiate recreational programming with demonstrated experience in event management and supervision in a college/university setting is highly desired. Knowledge of recreation and competitive sports including rules, administration of contests, and game management as demonstrated through past experience in a collegiate intramural/recreational sports setting. Knowledge of basic safety and risk management practices as they relate to recreational and competitive sports and all indoor and outdoor facilities as demonstrated through past event and facilities management. Leadership and supervisory skills to select, supervise, motivate and evaluate student employees relative to work performance, crisis management, and peer relationships as demonstrated through past supervision of staff. Budgeting skills to manage multiple program budgets and prioritize use of funds.
