Reporting to the Director, Career & Experiential Learning and Community Partnerships (Director), the incumbent is responsible for supporting the Director broadly across the Career & Experiential Learning and Community Partnerships portfolio in identifying strategic initiatives and partnerships in the areas of experiential learning, work-integrated learning, and engagement opportunities both on-campus and with partner organizations, including more specifically community organizations. While the incumbent provides leadership and guidance across the portfolio in support of the Director, Assistant Director will have direct responsibility for the day-to-day management of a team of professional staff specializing in community engaged learning, placements, community development, and volunteer management. S/he, in consultation with the Director, Career & Experiential Learning and Community Partnerships and the Director, Office of the Vice-Provost, Innovations in Undergraduate Education, will also determine new programming initiatives, and will prepare and manage the budget for the Centre for Community Partnerships (CCP) for submission to the Director. This role will broadly support and provide leadership within the Career & Experiential Learning and Community Partnerships portfolio.



Working closely with the Director, along with leadership, faculty, and staff throughout the University, the Assistant Director, Experiential Learning and Manager, Centre for Community Partnerships (AD&M) supports the Director in bringing coordination and consistency across programs in the portfolio, ensuring that they are responsive to students, faculty and community partner needs, and delivered in the most effective manner. In collaboration with colleges, faculties, other student life departments, and academic departments across the university, the AD&M works to implement integrated and cohesive co-curricular learning experiences and support for academic learning for undergraduate, professional and graduate students. The AD&M is an important resource for the wider University community in the areas of community engagement, community engaged learning, and the requirements for placing students in community organizations.



As a leader and a mentor, the AD&M will work synergistically with staff and faculty within the Division and throughout the University, and manage a staff of high-caliber professionals and assume overall responsibility for human resources, labour relations and financial management including dispute resolution and compliance of collective agreements. The incumbent directly manages the staff and the quality and efficiency of work, ensuring the structure and duties are meeting operational objectives in the most effective way.









Graduate degree in higher education administration, community development, student development, educational psychology or counseling psychology, or equivalent combination of education and experience; Evidence of scholarship in some area of professional work, and of engagement with relevant professional associations.





Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in progressively senior management positions with student affairs division or a community development organization; Four (4) years’ experience in the area of work-integrated learning, particularly community-engaged learning in higher education, including playing a leadership role in connecting higher education to community identified needs; Experience supervising in a unionized environment.





Relationship and partner (internal and external) development; Knowledge of student development theories and other related theories; Highly developed leadership and communication skills (verbal and written); strong customer service skills, strong diplomacy skills; Demonstrated proactive approach to program implementation and problem solving; Strong research skills and evidence-based outcome assessment experience; Demonstrated ability and tact in working with senior administrators and community organizations, effective team player; Ability to work across cultural and language differences; Strong-keyboarding skills, thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.





Ability to prioritize work, ability to deal with multiple demands with time-sensitive pressure, ability to work under constant pressure and stress; proven ability to exercise sound judgment, proven ability to deal with matters of extreme sensitivity and confidentiality; Demonstrated commitment to optimization of work efficiency and rationalization of procedures; Ability to work evenings and weekends when needed essential.


Travel: None



Standard University work hours (Monday to Friday, 8:45am to 5:00pm), with some occasional weekend and evening requirements (ex: participation in Outreach, the annual university-wide day of service);



Occasional travel to other campuses in the GTA;



Occasional travel to conferences and presentations.
