Position description

The UCSB McNair Scholars Program is searching for a professional with experience working with low-income, first-generation and/or underrepresented students who engage in undergraduate research and participate in graduate school preparation programs. The Assistant Director is a full-time campus-funded administrative appointment that reports to the Director. In consultation with the Director, the areas of responsibility for the Assistant Director include: program implementation and evaluation; curriculum development; program management, including supervision of staff and budget management; and marketing and campus/community relations.

About the Program:
The McNair Scholars Program prepares qualified undergraduates for entrance to a PhD program in all fields of study. The goals of the program are to increase the number of first-generation, low-income and/or underrepresented students in PhD programs, and ultimately, to diversify the faculty in colleges and universities across the country. The program provides undergraduates with opportunities to participate in academic year and summer research activities. McNair Scholars attend courses, seminars and workshops on topics related to graduate school preparation; complete a research project under the guidance of a faculty mentor; and have the opportunity to present their research at local, regional and/or national conferences.

The program is supported by the U.S. Department of Education (Federal TRiO Program), Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and the deans of the College of Letters and Sciences and the College of Engineering. Additionally, our science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) scholars are being funded by Edison International.
