Position Summary:


Under the supervision of the Director, Annual Giving and Business Intelligence, the Annual Giving Officer focuses on soliciting and increasing donations from alumni through McGill’s class and affinity reunion giving programs. In collaboration with central units, namely Alumni Relations, as well as Faculty based teams, plans and executes programs by developing strategies, recruiting volunteers and soliciting individuals to support various class or affinity reunions. Leverages reunion opportunities to further engage or reengage alumni, and develop the pipeline of philanthropic alumni leaders.


Duties and Responsibilities:


    With the unit Director, create a strategic plan and develop annual goals and objectives for class and affinity reunion fundraising programs and initiatives.

    Recruit, train and support alumni reunion leaders who have the capacity to make annual gifts at the Leadership/Special giving levels ($1K-$25K). Manage a small portfolio of alumni reunion leaders for direct solicitation efforts. Personally visit to qualify, cultivate and/or solicit, as necessary.

    Complete contact reports to ensure qualifications and visits are appropriately tracked and followed-up.

    Communicate regularly with alumni reunion leaders to set philanthropic and reunion attendance goals, plan initiatives, motivate and update them on their efforts and successes, with occasional travel for face-to-face visits.

    Collaborate with communications lead on reunion solicitation materials, including direct mail, email and social media communications.

    Oversee the University-wide launch and implementation of a relevant online working tool, and collaborate with the communications lead to develop and provide appropriate training and supportive documentation to both staff and volunteer leads.

    Collaborate with other members of the Annual Giving team to ensure that strategies fit into overall direct marketing and solicitation plans, and that reunion fundraising initiatives integrate solicitation channels including phone, crowdfunding or other strategies as needed.

    Support alumni reunion leaders in peer-to-peer solicitation strategies.

    Work in partnership with alumni relations and stewardship leads on the identification of engagement/recognition opportunities that are meaningful to alumni reunion donors.

    Oversee the reunion fundraising portfolio for McGill-wide efforts, which includes being the main point of contact, identifying opportunities for growth for the program at large and ensuring faculty partners have the support and resources they need.

    Identify affinity reunion opportunities and collaborate with associated units and faculties to achieve the project goals.

    Perform other duties as assigned. Seek opportunities for professional development that will enhance job performance, including building networks within the University and with colleagues at peer institutions.


Education and Experience:


Undergraduate degree


Three (3) years related experience


Other Qualifying Skills and Abilities:


Development experience required. Experience in cultivation and solicitation of donor prospects an asset. Experience with volunteer management an asset. Strong interpersonal leadership and communication skills (English and French, verbal and written).  Self-motivated and able to work independently.  Strong organizational and planning skills for balancing multiple projects and tasks. Strong analytical and technical aptitude with an attention to detail.  Demonstrated ability in a PC environment, proficient using MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), client-server database software and sound knowledge of social media tools. Ability to analyze and read data, determining and acting on trends.  Desire to be part of a strong team.  Willingness to travel and occasionally work nights and weekends.


Additional Information:


Negotiable start date with a preference for early July 2019
