THE FACULTY OF MEDICINE
The University of Toronto’s Faculty of Medicine includes 8,000 faculty members, 850 staff, and 7,000 students enrolled in undergraduate and postgraduate medicine, rehabilitation sciences, medical radiation sciences, physician assistant education, doctoral and professional graduate programs. It has nine fully affiliated hospitals and 18 community-affiliated hospitals and health facilities.

 

DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the Executive Director of Advancement, the Director of Development is part of the senior management team in the Office of Advancement and responsible for supporting the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gift donors at the $50,000 plus level and provides leadership and management for the Faculty of Medicine’s major gift fundraising team (9 individuals). In collaboration with the Executive Director of Advancement, the incumbent will provide leadership in the preparation, implementation and management of an annual Faculty-wide development plan; attends meetings with prospective major gift donors; is responsible for supporting the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gift donors; provides leadership, guidance and advice to departmental chairs and academic directors with respect to specific fundraising projects; prepares briefing materials. The Director will oversee a dynamic and high-performing team of development professionals work closely with others in Alumni Relations, Events, Stewardship, Annual Fund, and Operations, as a member of the Advancement team at the Faculty of Medicine and the Division of University Advancement.



Qualifications:

(Minimum)

 

EDUCATION:
University degree and or equivalent acceptable combination of education and experience.

 

EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of five years (+) related experience in progressively more responsible roles, preferably in healthcare philanthropy or the post-secondary education system. Proven management and leadership experience required, including the ability to motivate, coach and inspire staff; a strong developer of people and teams. Accomplished track record as a successful fundraiser and experience interacting with major gift donors, volunteers, alumni and industry representatives a strong asset. Experience developing, implementing and managing fundraising plans and programs.

 

SKILLS:
Strong computer skills, including word processing, database software and spreadsheet programs. Knowledge of Arbor and FIS an asset. Exceptional oral and written communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills. Ability to work well in a team environment. Detail oriented; strong organizational, research, and analytical skills. Initiative, tact, diplomacy, and creativity required. Ability to multi-task successfully in a hectic and results oriented environment.

 

OTHER:
A comprehensive and global understanding of the Faculty and University of Toronto, as well as general knowledge of the post-secondary education system and the fundraising sector a strong asset. Ability to work some evenings and weekends.

Notes: This is a 1-year maternity leave replacement term position.
