More than 4,400 students are currently undertaking a higher degree by research at UQ under the support and guidance of the UQ Graduate School. The Graduate School has academic responsibility for managing admissions, providing research scholarships, supporting students during their candidature, and facilitating the examination of theses. The Graduate School coordinates year-round skills training, supports infrastructure and research facilities, and provides opportunities to accelerate career development for HDR candidates.


The role

The HDR Engagement and Development team coordinates training programs that enhance the Higher Degree Research (HDR) experience for students and academics, from translational skills development programs, to programs designed to enhance student mobility and competitiveness in the national and international workforce upon HDR award. The team also actively works to attract international scholarship students to UQ and ensures the effectiveness of the UQ scholarship schemes.


Supporting the HDR Engagement and Development Manager, the position is responsible for enhancing the HDR student experience and supporting retention initiatives. The successful applicant will inform the development and coordination of training programs for research students based on the latest innovations that foster translational and professional skills. This position plays a key role in driving research student development initiatives and activities forward and ensuring a high standard of engagement with HDR students and the broader UQ community.


The person

Applicants should possess a degree in a relevant field; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.


The successful applicant will be an outstanding communicator with a demonstrated ability to plan at both operational and project level. An understanding of the Australian higher education sector is desirable.

This is a full-time, continuing appointment at HEW Level 7. The remuneration package will be in the range $83,634 - $91,350 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $97,852 - $106,880 p.a.).
