Lab Manager at Microsoft Quantum – Copenhagen and the Center for Quantum Devices


Microsoft Quantum – Copenhagen and the Center for Quantum Devices at the Niels Bohr Institute, announces the opening of a Lab Manager position. We are looking for a highly motivated individual to organize, maintain and improve our QDev experimental laboratory in Copenhagen. The ideal candidate is familiar with at least one of the areas of research lab equipment infrastructure & setup, mechanical/electrical engineering or cryogenics.  


The Position 

The scope of the position includes managing lab improvements, maintenance & expansions, as well as working with Campus Service, the local work shop and our equipment suppliers to guarantee equipment up time and access to all lab facilities.  


The Lab Manager will be responsible to help organize and maintain our lab infrastructure. This will be critical to support our experimental work. In addition to approx. 1,000sqm lab space, the responsibility will also include interaction with our suppliers for scheduled maintenance, immediate repair and upgrade work. 


Our lab is among the largest Quantum labs in Europe and will provide the candidate with many opportunities to make a positive impact in a highly dynamic environment of scientist and engineers trying to push the boundaries of Quantum computing. 


The Candidate 

The candidate is expected to work solution oriented, detail oriented, reliable and have a broad technical skillset. In addition to be:  

  • Highly organized 

  • Interested in solving technical problems that require collaboration differently skilled technicians/engineers 

  • Efficient, timely, and precise 

  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and competent with other Microsoft Office products 

  • Fluent in written & oral English. 

  • Have strong communication skills 

  • Have a background with in Physics, Nanoscience, Engineering or similar 


The ideal candidate additionally has: 

  • Prior project management experience 

  • Database experience 

  • A strong engineering, physics and semiconductor background

Terms of employment  

The duration of the position is two years with the possibility for extension.  


Terms of employment will be defined based on your background. Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.
