Manager in gastronomic food science and innovation


The Department of Food Science (UCPH-FOOD), Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen invites applications for a position as Manager in gastronomic food science and innovation from 1 February 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter.  


The Department of Food Science is recognized for excellence in food research, education, and industrial collaboration. The Department's research areas share the mission to contribute with new solutions for society and industry to support sustainable food production, food security and safety as well as production of high quality food promoting human health and wellbeing. The Manager in gastronomic food science and innovation will be part of the Section for Design and Consumer Behaviour.


We seek a candidate, who can set up, run and disseminate projects, events and workshops at the interface of science and gastronomic innovation. At KU-FOOD, we want to strengthen the connection of ideas and concepts within gastronomy and high-end cuisine with the scientific disciplines of the Department. The manager will be connected to the new research areas of “sustainable food production” and “ gastronomy and  innovation”. The manager should be dedicated to support our students to become more entrepreneurial by supporting development of business models an guidance with start-up companies in collaboration with UCPH SCIENCE Innovation Hub. We are therefore looking for a creative and inventive person with excellent managing skills within science, business and innovation and with a capacity to connect to the Danish and international culinary scene.  


The ideal candidate has one or more of the following qualifications: 

  • BSc/MSc, PhD or MBA in business, management, innovation, food science and technology or equivalent degree 

  • Understanding of product innovation from a culinary, research or industrial setting 

  • Experience in writing grant applications and other fundraising activities 

  • Experience in project management and administration 

  • Experience in organizing events and workshops with different stakeholders 

  • Experience in developing business models with students and project staff 

Personal qualifications: 

  • Excellent interpersonal and relational skills 

  • Open, creative and enterprising personality 

  • Interest in or network with high end gastronomy and food innovation 

  • Interest in and substantial knowledge of food science and technology 

  • Native Danish speaking or willingness to learn Danish within 1-2 years. 

  • English on a professional level  

The successful candidate will be part of an internationally oriented and enthusiastic section currently consisting of 1,5 full professors, 7 associate professors, 5 assistant professors and post docs and more than 12  PhD candidates as well as a 4 scientific assistants, a technician and two lab coordinators. The section has at its disposal advanced consumer labs, kitchen and various pilot plant facilities and advanced analytical infrastructure.
