OBJECT-BASED LEARNING COORDINATOR

Job no: 0046684

Work type: Continuing

Location: Parkville

Arts Teaching Innovation, Teaching and Learning Portfolio
Faculty of Arts

Salary: $69,148 - $93,830 p.a. plus 17% superannuation

In 2018 the Faculty of Arts at the University of Melbourne established Arts Teaching Innovation (ATI) as a specialist team of teaching and learning practitioners who will provide pedagogical support to academic staff who are engaged in undergraduate and graduate teaching within the Faculty across its five schools.

In light of this initiative, the Faculty of Arts will be appointing an Object-Based Learning Coordinator (Level A) who will work alongside Curriculum Designers and specialists in fields such Work-Integrated Learning and international student learning as part of the ATI team reporting to the Associate Dean (Teaching and Learning). This will be a continuing position and build on the work of the previous, fixed term Coordinator, Object-Based Learning and Collection Manager.

In conjunction with the establishment of the Object-Based Learning Coordinator role, a separate professional staff position of Collection Manager will also be appointed within the Faculty’s Academic Support Office. The Object-Based Learning Coordinator will work closely with the Collection Manager who will be responsible for logistical support of objects from cultural collections employed in teaching and care of the physical spaces within the Faculty where object-based learning takes place.

The position of Object Based Learning Coordinator has been established to support utilisation of the rich cultural collections of the University (and potentially material from partner organisations as appropriate) in an academically rigorous manner that enables development and enhancement of disciplinary and interdisciplinary learning.  The Object-Based Learning Coordinator will work closely with academic and professional colleagues across a range of discipline areas and professional staff units to encourage and facilitate the embedding of object-engaged learning in curriculum. This will include, but not be restricted to, utilisation of opportunities provided by the two Object Based Learning Laboratories and multiple integrated display areas in the Arts West Building to assist academic staff with the design and implementation of object-based learning activities and classes.
