The Center for Contextual Psychiatry (CCP) is a multidisciplinary and internationally oriented research center, widely recognized for its expertise in the design, application, and analysis of studies and clinical trials using Experience Sampling Methodology in the context of Mental Health research. The CCP is headed by prof. Inez Myin-Germeys. The CCP currently consists of 25 researchers from a wide range of backgrounds (psychology - psychiatry - statistics - philosophy - movement sciences - ...). The Center is part of the Department of Neurosciences in the School of Medicine at KU Leuven, one of the most renowned research universities in Europe.


  • The successful candidate will work at CCP, in cooperation with DataScience and Software Development Team in the Biomedical Research Centre for Mental Health (BRC-MH), King’s College, London, and will assume the principle role for the administration and maintenance of the mHealth remote sensing dataplatform.
  • You will further develop the mHealth platform for active and passive remote monitoring (wearable and mobile phone data harvesting platform), assist with the development of a feedback module that graphically represents the collected data, and assist with end-to-end development of additional features and modules of the platform (e.g. interventional studies that incorporate therapy modules).
  • This platform is RADAR-based framework; RADAR-base is the open-source code repository for the mHealth sensing platform. The applicant should familiarise him/herself with the code repository as questions will be specifically asked about it during the interview process. Please follow this link to RADAR-base:
  • You will assist with the development of generalizable capability of participant data from multiple classes of device, and investigate developing standards (such as Open mHealth).
  • You will develop the of server-side infrastructure that will enable: 1) Data ingestion from user devices and external services; 2) Data Quality Assurance features to provide alerts and reports about the successful transmission of sensor and trial data; 3) Database storage for sensor data; 4)An integration API layer to allow for interfacing with the data store.
You will develop a management interface with dashboards to authenticate and authorize each study participant and researcher to this system as well as providing near real-time reports on adherence, alerts, event logs, dataquality, behaviour and mood dynamics, and contextual features


We are looking for a professional and enthusiastic developer, with the following experience and skills: 

  • You have a relevant BSc (mathematical, computer science, bioinformatics or equivalent), Master and/or PhD level degrees are an advantage.
  • Knowledge of J2EE, Android App development, software maintenance, MVC,Mocking, ORM, REST, Hadoop ecosystem, and data manipulation/analysis language(e.g. Python) is essential.
  • Knowledge of Spring Enterprise framework, node.js, C++, Golang, and iOS experience is an advantage.
  • You are able to write code that clearly expresses its purpose such that it can be maintained and extended, and you are able to understand and overcome scaling issues relating to massive datasets.
  • You are up to date with new approaches in software delevopment such as microservice architecture, you have significant experience with Java, and you have experience with web development, data management and SQL databases.
  • Experience with Django or similar frameworks, Apache Kafka, Scrum and TDD methodologies is an advantage.
  • You are proactive, have excellent interpersonal & communication (written & verbal) skills, and you are able to work independently in a multidisciplinary environment, and cooperate with team members.


We offer a full-time employment of a fixed term of 1 year, with possible renewal. This function is linked to a salary grade 5, 6, or 7 depending on your experience and your competences. CCP offers a challenging and flexible working environment.
