Job Summary

The Office of Medical Student Education seeks a qualified candidate to join the Curriculum Services unit.  The Program Manager for the Pathways of Excellence and Longitudinal Curricular threads is a key member of the Curriculum Services team, providing administrative and operational insight to the design, implementation, and delivery of high quality educational programs across the medical student curriculum.  The incumbant will work as a member of a high functioning unit with consistent interaction across the administrative units within the Medical School, teaching faculty, OMSE faculty and staff, and medical students.  Michigan Medicine and the Office of Medical Student Education values a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion.  We are committed to the development of a positive and inclusive environment. 



1.  As Program Manager of the Pathways of Excellence Program, provide administrative leadership and expertise to all operational activities across the 8 pathways programs.  This shall include, but is not limited to the following: 

  1. Directing the administrative duties related to the Pathways of Excellence program (e.g. end-of-year reports, representing program to students, organizing monthly meetings);
  2. Collaborating with the Faculty Director, individual pathway faculty leads, and the pathway program managers to develop, foster, and maintain high quality educational experiences across the medical student curriculum;
  3. Gathering and using performance and course data to provide operational insight to course offerings, right sizing programs, and streamlining administrative processes;
  4. Serving as the primary point of contact with the student course representatives, as well as questions or concerns regarding Pathways of Excellence curricular development;
  5. Supervising the compilation of Pathways of Excellence materials, Canvas communications, Canvas site development and management by each of the pathways and their respective administrative staff;
  6. Managing and coordinating the Pathways of Excellence evaluations with the Evaluation and Assessment office;
  7. Contributing ideas and opinions on assessment measures such as the Capstone for Impact checklist and milestones.


2.  As Program Manager of the Longitudinal Curricular Threads, provide administrative leadership and expertise to all operational areas across all four classes (approximately 680 students) related to new elements of the medical student curriculum (e.g. Leadership, Health System Science).  Strategize, plan, develop, anticipate and oversee all aspect of the coordination of the courses and threads, including activities paired with medical student class orientations, seminars, events, and connections with other curricular elements (e.g. M-Home, Inter-professional Clinical Experience).  Implement and monitor curricular evaluation tools that support data driven decision making.  Use independent decision making authority and data analysis to align resources with high performing modules.  Establish improvement plans for low performing modules and processes for removal if objectives are not met, as appropriate.  Collaborate with other units across OMSE to ensure educational learning objectives are mapped, shared goals and objectives between programs are realized, curricular outcomes are identified, and all potential administrative conflicts are mediated. 


3.  Provide administrative leadership and expertise with regards to the supervision, development, and coordination of support staff for medical student curricular programs.  Set expectations, accountability, and support relevant professional development pathways through performance management.  Apply MSA and OMSE policies and procedures.  Work with the Director of Curriculum Services to support staff growth, mediate disputes.  Partner with faculty and Director of Curriculum Services to prepare, plan, manage and forecast budget activities for the programs.  Align resources with value metrics.  Ensure faculty appointment letters allocate appropriate effort from OMSE and departmental sources.


4.  Partner with Deans, Directors, and Program Leads to influence the strategic direction, development, and onboarding of Longitudinal Curricular threads for medical students (e.g. Leadership, Health System Science).  Work with departments, centers, and institutes to initiate partnerships in support of existing and new activities.  Analyze, evaluate, and compare current trends in medical education in order to influence curricular innovations, and develop best practices for the implementation and integration of educational innovations and updates.  


5.  Serve on Medical School educational and operational committees charged with decision making, implementation, and enforcement of medical student policies and procedures (e.g. Curriculum Operations Subcommittee, Branches Operations Committee, Curriculum Policy Committee).  Provide clarity, insight, and expertise to committee relative to the Paths of Excellence and Longitudinal Curricular threads.  Work closely with units across OMSE (e.g. Registrar, Financial Aid, Academic Review Boards, Evaluation & Assessment).


Required Qualifications*

1.  Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.  

2.  Three to five years of relevant experience in an educational setting.  

3.  Excellent management, organizational and interpersonal skills.  Ability to interact with variety of individuals at all levels from student to faculty.

4.  Ability to work independently, use good judgment in decision making/problem solving, ability to work under pressure and simultaneously manage multiple tasks.

5.  One to two years of experience with the functional supervision of others.  

6.  Proven ability to understand and apply organizational policies and procedures.


Desired Qualifications*

1.  Master’s Degree in Education, Business, or the Health Professions.

2.  Experience in a University setting.  Experience with medical education or health professions education is highly desirable.

3.  Direct supervisory experience.
