£38833 to £47722 per annum, depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.

Applications are invited for the above post based at King’s Meadow Campus.


The role holder will manage a defined area of spend and assist with the development and dissemination of best procurement practices across the University, delivering appropriate training to staff at all levels where necessary. You will identify priority categories within your portfolio and design, sell and implement solutions, which result in value for money being achieved and contribute to the University's overall Procurement strategy.


Drawing on your experience in category management, tendering, whole life costing evaluation, contract formation and management, you will deliver best value framework agreements and assist non-procurement staff to obtain value for money.


You will explore new opportunities for cost savings and efficiencies in order to achieve savings targets, at the same time ensuring that the University’s legal obligations and funding conditions are met.


The Category Manager will be responsible for managing relationships with senior managers, internal stakeholders and key suppliers. They will also manage contracts for common goods / services across schools and professional services and work with contract ‘owners’ to manage supplier performance.


The Category Manager will be responsible for providing procurement, training, guidance and support to category stakeholders; giving advice on issues arising in devolved policy deployment, existing contracts, specific project related matters and in general.


You will also be required to represent the University and communicate our requirements at meetings of external purchasing consortia and other groups.


Category Managers will be accountable for delivering agreed goals and objectives including cost reduction targets. They have delegated authority to approve contracts up to an annual value of £500k per annum for common goods / services.
