The University of Amsterdam (UvA) is looking for an Advisor Research Funding (grant advisor) to help researchers apply for research funding.

UvA aims to create societal and economic value from education and research. Innovation Exchange Amsterdam (IXA) is the UvA department for this valorisation task. IXA actively supports researchers in applying for research funding, valorising research results through for example licences and spin off companies and setting up consortia and cooperation. IXA UvA-HvA has a team of 30 enthusiastic and motivated people. and is organized in four teams of different expertise: research funding, business development, legal support and event- and management support. The grant support team advises and supports researchers in applying for research funding.

What are you going to do

The grant advisor will work in a team of nine grant advisors. The new grant advisor will preferably support researchers in the Faculty of Science and in the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences.

With colleagues, the grant advisor is responsible for stimulating researchers to apply for funding and for finding suitable funding opportunities for (excellent) scientists, in different stages of their research career. The grant advisor will advise broadly on individual and consortium grants, National and EU funds. The focus of the work is on personal grants, such as NWO Vernieuwingsimpuls and ERC.

The grant advisor supports researchers in the full process of grant applications (pre-award), from identifying a suitable program and call, to advising on the structure of the application and commenting on draft versions of the grant application. Other tasks are to proactively inform researchers and research units on opportunities and to organize and coordinate information sessions about funding schemes and procedures. The grant advisor also gives training and workshops and organizes and coordinates interview training. The grant advisor coordinates his/her activities with for example the project offices and/or research institute management. Finally, the grant advisor works together with the other IXA experts. The grant advisor has no post-award tasks.

What do we require

If you are the advisor research funding we are looking for, you:

  • hold at least an academic degree, preferably a PhD;
  • have affinity with research;
  • have at least 3 years of relevant work experience in a similar position;
  • have proven knowledge and experience in supporting and advising researchers in all aspects of research grant applications in general and specifically in NWO Vernieuwingsimpuls and ERC applications;
  • are service-oriented and an efficient communicator;
  • able to handle multiple projects at once on a tight deadline;
  • have excellent oral and written communication skills, in Dutch and English.

In addition, you are proactive, independent and show initiative. You have a result-oriented, flexible and professional attitude and you are a team player.

Our offer

We offer a temporary employment contract for 38 hours per week (full-time) for a period of 1 year. Upon positive evaluation and satisfactory performance, you will be offered a permanent contract. Your office will be the Amsterdam Science Park. You will also work in the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences and possibly other UvA-locations.

The gross monthly salary based on full-time employment (38 hours per week) ranges from €3,746 up to a maximum of €5,826 (salary scale 11 or 12). This is exclusive 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus. The starting salary will be based on qualifications, expertise and relevant experience.The profile Employee Knowledge Valorisation (Dutch: Medewerker Kennisvalorisatie) 3 or 2 is applicable in accordance with the  Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities.
