Purpose:


PLEASE NOTE: This position requires bilingualism in English and French.


Reporting directly to the Assistant Director, Admissions Assessment, the incumbent is responsible for assessing the admissibility of applicants for entry to York University with a primary focus on the bilingual faculty (Glendon). The incumbent researches and evaluates individual’s academic credentials; determines appropriate equivalencies (secondary and post secondary) according to pre-established templates and guidelines for admission purposes. The incumbent works within a team of assessors and supports the University’s goal of providing a student centric, service-oriented approach to admissions assessment.
 

Education:


High School diploma with a minimum of two (2) years’ university level education OR an equivalent related post-secondary education OR an equivalent of at least two (2) years recent experience (defined as within the last three years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks, in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below will also be considered.

 

Experience:


Minimum 2 years' recent related experience-assessing applications/transcripts/records; advising/counselling and answering detailed enquiries and providing regulatory information in a student service or comparable customer service area preferably in a university environment.

 

Skills:


Glendon French assessment skill level: Bilingual Modules I (Advanced), III (Intermediate), IV (Advanced). Accurate word processing skills. Ability to be flexible and perform as a team player. Accurate assessment of applications/transcripts/records, including the calculation of grade point averages. Applying academic regulations to the assessment of credentials. Provide regulatory information and answer detailed enquiries in a quick, efficient, clear and concise manner, both in person and over the telephone. Advising and/or counselling skills. Analyzing, synthesizing, interpreting and evaluating information (e.g. for the purpose of determining the admissibility of applicants and/or to evaluate credentials). Excel – intermediate level. Accurate on-line data entry skills & knowledge of a large computerized record system. Researching information using the Internet. Attending accurately to detail and working effectively under pressure of high volume. Effective organizational skills including ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and set/juggle conflicting priorities. Exercising good judgement and initiative. Good oral communication skills to elicit accurate information. Good written communication & proofreading skills. Dealing courteously and effectively with customers/co-workers. Effective interpersonal and public relations skills. Tact and diplomacy. Maintaining confidentiality.
