Position Overview The Lab Administrator plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of undergraduate and graduate teaching laboratories. This position supports faculty, students, and research staff by managing lab resources, maintaining safety standards, and facilitating high-quality educational experiences. This role combines technical lab management, administrative oversight, and mentorship responsibilities to optimize the teaching laboratory environment. Key Responsibilities Prepare and maintain chemicals, solutions, equipment, and materials for laboratory courses. Oversee daily lab setups, chemical labeling, waste collection, and hazardous material disposal in compliance with environmental and departmental standards. Monitor lab operations, troubleshoot technical issues, and enforce safety practices. Maintain, repair, and replace lab equipment and glassware; coordinate vendor service and repairs. Train and supervise undergraduate and graduate assistants on lab preparation and safety protocols. Create, update, and maintain laboratory manuals, technical procedures, and course notes. Participate in planning, evaluating, and recommending improvements for new laboratory experiments. Maintain inventory of chemicals, equipment, and teaching materials; track usage and coordinate ordering. Serve as safety officer for undergraduate lab spaces, maintaining spill kits, first-aid kits, and compliance signage. Assist with prototype experiments, new exercises, and special projects. Oversee setup/break-down procedures and monitor quality control for lab exercises. Develop and maintain purchasing processes; liaise with vendors for timely delivery. Track and reconcile lab-related expenses with departmental administration. Support departmental safety and compliance training for students, faculty, and staff. Maintain records and reports on lab operations, inventories, and manuals. Serve as a resource to faculty, TAs, and students regarding lab operations, safety, and administration. Qualifications Experience in laboratory operations and/or administration preferred. Knowledge of chemical handling, lab safety, and environmental compliance. Strong organizational, communication, and supervisory skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accurate records. Compensation & Benefits Salary Range: $44,766 – $71,706 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
