Academic Technician/Lab Manager in the Section for Biomolecular Sciences


At the Section for Biomolecular Sciences, the Department of Biology at the Faculty of Natural and Life Sciences (SCIENCE), University of Copenhagen, a full-time Academic-TAP position is available for occupation on October 1st 2019 or soon thereafter. The position is limited to 3 years.


The Section of Biomolecular Sciences conducts research, primarily in protein chemistry and biology, the biophysical properties and cellular metabolism of proteins. We use molecular biological as well as cellular, biochemical and biophysical methods in our work.


Connected to the position is the responsibility of lab manager for a recently funded research project, where the focus is on protein characterization as well as various molecular biology methods in E. coli, yeast and mammalian cells.


The tasks for the Academic Technician / Lab Manager include:

  • Bacterial and yeast genetics, including selection and analysis of mutants.

  • Culturing, transfection etc. of mammalian cells.

  • Immunoprecipitation and western blotting.

  • Production of media and standard solutions.

  • For all abovementioned tasks, the Lab Manager is the key responsible person, and is also in charge of instructing new lab members in performing these.

  • Purchase of laboratory products and consumables.

  • Instruction in molecular biological methods such as PCR, gel electrophoresis, cloning, transformation, DNA and RNA purification.

  • Responsibility for and instruction in various bioassays.

  • Maintenance and instruction in the use of instruments (e.g. HPLC systems, microscopes etc.).



We seek a person with relevant education and extensive experience in the fields of biochemistry, molecular biology, or related fields, and who has substantial experience and interest in the above research areas and who wants to:

  • Handle the lab-management function for two collaborative research groups.

  • Work with and instruct in the use of microbiological, biochemical, biophysical and molecular biological techniques.

  • Maintain instruments and instruct new users (typically students)

  • Work independently and as part of a group, in a result-oriented, organized and responsible manner.

  • Work closely with and guide students and postdocs in techniques used in the labs.


It is essential that the candidate can understand and participate actively and independently in the research and act as an inspiration for and co-supervisor of students in the laboratory. The Section for Biomolecular Sciences is an international research environment, thus good English knowledge is required. The candidate should be energetic, hardworking enjoy working with and sharing information with colleagues.


The employment and salary is made in accordance with the Circular on the Collective Agreement concerning academics in the state sector concluded between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
