Position description

Position: Academic Coordinator in the Composition Program

The Department of English invites applications for Academic Coordinator (AC) positions in the Composition Program. Up to four Coordinators may be hired, and in specific roles they will attend to the Program’s entry-level and/or lower-division courses: WR 40 Intro to Writing & Rhetoric, WR 45 & WR 50 Critical Reading & Rhetoric, or WR 60 Research & Argument. This position is divided between administration (up to 50%) and teaching (up to 62.5%) in the roles of Academic Coordinator and Lecturer respectively; see the next paragraph for information about the Lecturer position and its requirements. The initial two-year appointment begins in the 2022-2023 academic year on July 01, 2022 and ends on June 30, 2024. The position is renewable for a total of three two-year terms, following successful reviews. The Academic Coordinator reports to the Director of Composition, and the administrative duties of the position include but are not limited to working collaboratively with the director, academic coordinators, and administrative staff to deliver curricula that meet student learning outcomes, and to train, collaborate with, and evaluate the Program’s instructional faculty, which includes Teaching Assistants, Teaching Associates, and Lecturers. These positions receive an annual stipend of $1,500.00 that can be used for professional development. The annual salary as Academic Coordinator will be commensurate with experience starting at $62,614.

Simultaneously, the Academic Coordinator is expected to hold a Lecturer position dedicated to teaching in the Composition Program. The annual salary as Lecturer will be commensurate with experience starting at $62,455. NOTE: Recruitment for the Lecturer position is separate from the Academic Coordinator position in this advertisement, and any applicant for an Academic Coordinator position must apply separately for the Lecturer position if they have taught fewer than 18 quarters in UC Irvine’s Composition Program. Qualifications: Ph.D. (preferred) in English, Rhetoric & Composition, Writing Studies, or a related field. MA in applied linguistics or related field, or MFA in creative writing also considered. At least three years of teaching composition & rhetoric at the post-secondary level required, and experience in writing program or writing center administration, familiarity with pedagogies for multilingual students, and facility with multi-modal and technology-based composition instruction will be valued in this search.
