Position Description

The UC Berkeley Haas School of Business is expanding its Sustainable Business curriculum and co-curricular programming for its six degree programs, its institutes and centers. Haas has proposed a new Graduate Professional Certificate in Sustainable Business and is considering options for a concurrent degree program with another department, College or professional school. The development of the certificate program, and other cross-campus initiatives, is one of the Haas School’s top three strategic priorities. The mission of this program is to prepare Haas graduates to view business challenges and opportunities through a sustainability “lens” when they assume leadership positions in organizations. Specific areas of training include sustainable and impact finance, sustainable sourcing and supply chain management, business impacts on natural resources and climate, disaster preparedness, and managing sustainable organizations.

Reporting to the Senior Assistant Dean of Instruction, the Academic Coordinator II (working title Executive Director of Sustainability Programs) coordinates Haas’ sustainability curriculum/initiatives across all degree programs, institutes, and centers. Specific duties include responsibility for fundraising for these new interdisciplinary programs, curricular planning with the faculty and the senior assistant dean, managing independent research programs, formulating program strategies, and planning, directing, and managing the program budget and resources. This role is a non-senate position as Academic Coordinator II at 50% effort.

Responsibilities include:

  • Independently oversee the new Graduate Professional Certificate in Sustainable Business program and represent the program to outside organizations, including corporate donors.
  • Design, develop, deliver, and administer fundraising programs; identify new donor prospects by researching background information on potential donors and develop materials, marketing plans, and organize related programs/events; cultivate, steward, and solicit donor prospects.
  • Involvement with curricular planning with faculty and the senior assistant dean; involvement with course scheduling in consultation with Haas management and faculty.
  • Engage in planning, development, and implementation of student support programs, activities, counseling, and advising; work with students, alumni, and/or potential employers to support students’ career development.
  • Counsel students on academic program policies and issues; monitor student academic progress and assist students in making appropriate educational choices and decisions; conduct informational sessions and provide advice.
  • Work with student leaders to plan, develop, and implement programs, services, activities, and processes for students in their non-academic life at the university, including leadership development, student organization advising, and other areas.

Reporting line:
