Reports to: Tarek Azzam, Associate Professor and Director, Center for Evaluation and Assessment (CEA) at Gevirtz Graduate School of Education (GGSE)

The Associate Director is a leadership position that contributes to the direction and sustainability of the Center for Evaluation and Assessment (CEA). In this position the Associate Director is expected to perform as a senior-level professional, serving as a thought partner in the formulation of center-level goals, the development of promising strategies by which to pursue those goals, and the integration of these into strategic planning efforts. In this role, the Associate Director will have primary responsibilities in the management of the CEA.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee CEA projects and procedures including: evaluation contracts, budgeting, project designs, analysis, and reporting work from CEA team members
  • Contribute to the development of resources, successful completion of assigned deliverables, conducting presentations on behalf of the organization, and providing direct technical assistance and training services to CEA staff and students
  • Provide guidance and visioning on an array of research, evaluation, assessment, synthesis, product development, and technical assistance and training activities
  • Propose team structure and staffing as needed to effectively support evaluation contracts (Including client invoicing and budget tracking)
  • Hire, train, and provide coaching and oversight to CEA staff and students
  • Identify, engage, and manage 3rd parties that would support the evaluation
  • Contribute to the development of resources, successful completion of assigned deliverables, conducting presentations on behalf of the organization, and providing direct technical assistance and training services to CEA staff and students
  • Travel to stakeholder and data collection locations (Domestic and International)
  • Maintain a current knowledge of advances and innovations in the evaluation discipline
  • Engage in scholarly activity related to the discipline (e.g., presentation of papers, serving on panel discussion, attending conferences, publication of articles/chapter/books, grant and contract writing, participation in seminars, and peer reviewing)

Basic Qualifications:

  • Masters degree (degree conferred in order to apply for the position) in an evaluation field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in program evaluation, applied research, or social sciences or equivalent experience and training consisting of 3+ years of experience in evaluation, applied research, or social sciences.
  • Knowledge of one or more planning and evaluation approaches, such as utilization focused evaluation. Experience in designing, generating, and managing evaluation and assessment projects; including longitudinal studies, implantation evaluations, outcomes/effectiveness evaluations, case studies
  • Knowledge and experience necessary to lead in the design of research methods and data collection tools; contributing to assessments, evaluations and case studies through experimental, quasi-experimental, qualitative, and mixed-method approaches
  • Experience cultivating professional relationships with stakeholders
  • Excellent research skills, with a proven capacity in this area
  • Excellent writing skills with the ability to translate complex ideas and information into plain language
  • Ability to handle a fast-paced environment with high volume of projects
  • Proven track record of effectively managing evaluation projects in a complex, highly distributed research environment (academic or business) Able to manage evaluation projects to achieve real world utilization of findings
  • Understanding of evaluation budgeting and ability to successfully perform budget management
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-initiation and ability to work independently
  • Attention to detail and excellent follow-through
  • Comfortable assuming ownership and leadership of new tasks and projects
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups in a variety of settings
