Description

The Humanities and Social Change Center at the University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for an Academic Coordinator I position. This is a half-time, calendar-year position. The initial appointment will be for one year, with the expectation of renewal based on excellent performance and administrative approval. The Department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching, and service as appropriate to the position


The Humanities and Social Change Center seeks an Academic Coordinator to assist the Center's Director, steering committee, and research teams administratively in cultivating research and programming in the humanities and humanistic social sciences that speaks critically and creatively to questions of social change in the contemporary world.


Duties and responsibilities include:
• assisting in the recruitment of Center Fellows and the hosting of visiting scholars;
• facilitating the conception, organization, and implementation of research projects within the Center;
• planning, advertising, and administrating related program events including seminars, talks, workshops, colloquia, and conferences;
• coordinating with on-campus academic departments and administrative offices;
• overseeing email communication and advertisement related to Center activities;
• managing the Center's website and social media accounts;
• assisting the Director in planning and overseeing the Center budget and in preparing reports for outside agencies;
• identifying and developing opportunities for research and program funding;
• facilitating communication and coordinating collaborative undertakings between UCSB, the Humanities and Social Change International Foundation in Hamburg, Germany, and partner Centers at Humboldt University, Berlin; Cambridge University in England; and Ca' Foscari University of Venice.


Minimum qualifications: The minimum requirement to be considered an applicant is the completion of all requirements for an MA (or equivalent graduate degree) in the humanities or humanistic social sciences at the time of application.


Preferred qualifications: Preferred candidates will demonstrate excellent writing, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills; have at least one year of relevant administrative experience; possess a PhD in the humanities or humanistic social sciences as well as teaching experience in the humanities or humanistic social sciences; and have grant writing experience.
